What would a 3 month extension achieve?

As I understand it, MPs are hoping to fast-track a bill through parliament to try and force BoJo to ask for a 3 month extension if an agreement is not approved by 19
October

What on earth are MPs hoping to achieve in an additional 3 months? Surely it would just be prolonging the uncertainty? We can’t keep asking for extensions forever!

EU would probably refuse and with good reason as well
The EU will never kick us out, they want to keep us trapped inside forever. And sadly this new Bill remainers are trying to get gives the EU power to keep us trapped inside forever.

Ha ha ha ha.

Two fingers, I think it's clear how some posters think every single thing leavers say is stupid.

twofingerstoEverything · 03/09/2019 19:19

I don't think every single leaver is stupid if that's what you were implying. But I do think the 'just get on with it' merchants are. Do they think a magic wand can be waved and all the discussion and negotiation will be over, all the deals done, etc.? Don't they have the sense to realise that this is going to go on and on ad nauseum?

3 months would give us time to properly run a general election, and allow a new government a little bit of time to come up with a plan. I believe it's intended to be a potential precursor to asking for a longer extension to run a people's vote.

and allow a new government a little bit of time to come up with a plan
Yeah right

And another practical advantage - at the moment, the Brexit date is bang in the middle of half term for a lot of people. Move the date to the end of Jan and people can actually go away in October without worrying about travel disruption - well other than strikes, inclement weather, drones, IT disasters...

berlinbabylon · 04/09/2019 14:19

And no I'm not expecting the EU to give an extension so that some counties of England can go on holiday - but people have said there would be no advantages to an extension so I am coming up with a couple.

BogglesGoggles · 04/09/2019 14:21

Unless the EU agree to renegotiate in good faith (why would they though?) fuck all.

BogglesGoggles · 04/09/2019 14:22

@berlinbabylon but I was planning on going away over Christmas and coming back beginning of Jan. that simply won’t work for me. Should I call up parliament and as for beginning of February instead?

BogglesGoggles · 04/09/2019 14:24

@Walkingdeadfangirl the EU have no say in it. The ECJ (or whatever it’s called these days) has allowed us to repeal brexit but unless we act before the deadline we will automatically leave.
