Wherever you are, on 1Nov, what do you expect to see/happen to YOU in particular?

My main concern is probably medication supply - one in particular can be hard to get at the best of times.
Possibly rising prices on everyday goods - nothing too catastrophic probably.
Nothing else should affect me too drastically I don't think.
I'm in a pretty quiet residential area, so if there are riots, I can avoid the town near me in London most likely to see them and go to another town/shopping area.
My other concern would be welfare cuts in a next budget - not sure when the next budget is?

Herman. It's a simple question. Answer it or don't.

Me personally? Probably not much, straight away. Expecting maybe some shortages of fresh stuff in the shops.

But I am worried about Northern Ireland and the border there, and whether there will be massive unrest.

Also not sure how the social care sector will be affected - so many workers are European, it’s already very hard to recruit and I expect it will get harder.
When agencies give notice on people’S care because they haven’t got the staff it’s a massive headache for social services and sometimes can result in people having to go into a care home for respite which can be awful if they don’t want to.
The whole sector feels like it’s a pack of cards that could collapse at any time.

Nothing for me. I expect my neighbours and colleagues to express some sense of confusion as to why the whole thing has happened and maybe raise an eyebrow or pause longer to wait for my take on the mess, I will prob say 'it's a shame, I don't know what will happen now, I'm sorry it's had to come to this' and then shuffle off. I'm pretty sure in the UK most people will buy loads in the week or so running up to the 31st (my ILs are actively planning this!) so I expect empty shelves a week or so before. That said, maybe the supermarkets will have prepped for this and have extra staff to restock the shelves. I hope this doesn't happen. I really hope the brexiteers are right and it will be fiiiiine. I don't think it will though. (Empty shelves the least of it)

I am not in the UK but if I was I would be worried about fuel We import 47% of the gas we use via pipelines from Europe and Norway. 9% comes in to the UK by tankers in the form of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The tankers are the much more worrying part as they are likely to be delayed or stopped from entering the country. If the UK loses 9% of the gas supply, that is a big deal.

MaximusHeadroom · 31/08/2019 06:14

It won't just be good which come directly from the EU but which travel via the EU as a lack of clarity at ports will cause delays and non-EU shipments will be sitting in the same queues as those from the EU

Why 1st November? Too soon to feel many effects. I’d be more interested to know what people think Christmas might be like after no deal

Well it depends what happens to insulin supplies. Operation Yellowhammer leak said there might be interruption to the supplies of medicine including insulin. If that happens then we will have to get out of the country otherwise I will be attending DH’s funeral.

I’m obviously hoping that this is indeed ‘project fear’ as the alternative is beyond any words I have. The fact that I have actually typed these words and seen in print something that suggests possible interruption to insulin supply in Britain in. 2019 is beyond words.

Poor DH is putting a brave face in things and trying to carry on as normal but the underlying stress of this is effecting his blood sugar control so already impacting negatively on his health and he is now more likely to suffer long term complications. He’s had to deal with this since he was 9 and works really hard to keep his blood sugar where it needs to be and stable, multiple needles a day, careful what he eats all the time. Obviously I am furious at the current situation.

We be on way home after couple e days away for half term .Luckily in uk as can imagine chaos at passport control .Be waking up hoping all been cancelled .

Will make sure car is kept topped up while away. That is if no fuel shortages already as figure most people no matter which way they voted be doing just in case

Skyejuly · 31/08/2019 07:17

I'm not sure. Just bitterly disappointed.

ifonly4 · 31/08/2019 08:02

I'm off work, so could involve cleaning, gardening, seeing friends, . I do a lot of shopping on foot, so could end up in Tescos in the hope I can buy somethingConfused

Fatted · 31/08/2019 08:05

I work for a particular part of the public sector which is already very busy at this time of year. With Halloween and fireworks. We have been hit with a leave ban because they are expecting riots. All hands on deck and all that. Which is great because it's half term. Hmm

PurpleNewspaperGlass · 31/08/2019 08:09

Nothing. I think it'll take a few months before any potential shit hits the fan. At worst I'll get kicked out after nearly 20 years of paying taxes here. At best I'll be richer than ever before.

BunchMunch · 31/08/2019 08:16

Well, we normally have a week away at half term normally Spain or Turkey but we haven't booked anywhere yet.
If it is going to be no deal I don't know if a holiday would be a good idea.
If we're not away then I'd imagine it'd be just like any other day?

zafferana · 31/08/2019 08:18

The things that we might have shortages of are things like out of season fruit and veg that comes from Europe - the kind of stuff you can't stockpile. So salad from Spain in the winter, that sort of thing. Bread and milk are generally made in this country, so that should be fine, as should anything in a tin, carton or packet, as those will be stockpiled by suppliers ahead of time. On 1st Nov I'll be celebrating my DC's birthday and trying NOT to give Brexit too much headspace.

Hermanhessescat · 31/08/2019 08:19

Sorry Dane re you’re question upthread don’t know what I’m supposed to be answering Hmm

Fairenuff · 31/08/2019 11:20

The only people who riot are thugs. And all they want is an excuse to smash things, burn things and rob people. I won't be doing that and no-one I know will be doing it either. It's a stupid suggestion that people will riot to make the government re-join the EU.

1FineDane · 31/08/2019 12:06

I'm wondering about the border too. Someone commuting from Dublin to Belfast say - will there be a checkpoint on the train somewhere along the way?
