Brexit

Wherever you are, on 1Nov, what do you expect to see/happen to YOU in particular?

My main concern is probably medication supply - one in particular can be hard to get at the best of times.
Possibly rising prices on everyday goods - nothing too catastrophic probably.
Nothing else should affect me too drastically I don't think.
I'm in a pretty quiet residential area, so if there are riots, I can avoid the town near me in London most likely to see them and go to another town/shopping area.
My other concern would be welfare cuts in a next budget - not sure when the next budget is?

Possibly pregnant.... 😂 And living a normal life

bellinisurge · 30/08/2019 15:17

I'll be in the West of Ireland.

Mirrormirror999 · 30/08/2019 23:13

Absolutely nothing!

YeOldeTrout · 30/08/2019 23:15

I'm a news junkie. Brexit news is a specific buzz (of sorts).
My addiction will be very fulfilled for many years to come.

I'm afraid I'll just feel more & more alienated too. As many folk continue to make excuses for this all being 'normal' and 'desirable' and even try to pretend it was all inevitable.

1FineDane · 30/08/2019 23:18

Lol, seems that at the end of the day, nobody is actually that scared.

BeardedMum · 30/08/2019 23:19

Waiting to see what will happen with my bags packed and (EEA) passport ready.

Fairenuff · 30/08/2019 23:23

I think it's a Friday isn't it? So I'll be going to work as usual.

UrsulaPandress · 30/08/2019 23:25

Who are you expecting be rioting?

1FineDane · 30/08/2019 23:27

Well I won't be rioting, but where I live has a very disenfranchised population who might just riot for the hell of it. Hard to tell. I don't think there will actually be any need to riot.

OP posts:
1FineDane · 30/08/2019 23:29

If it comes down to no meds, no milk, no bread etc on day 6, then maybe expect rioting. But not immediately.

Antigonads · 30/08/2019 23:31

No bread? Shit. Do we import bread?

Ilikewinter · 30/08/2019 23:38

Well we'll be driving to Heathrow ready for a flight to USA on 2nd.....assuming we can get out of the country! ...will make sure car is filled up incase of any fuel issues on our return.

I avoided booking a holiday in April due to brexit, at the time November seemed a safe bet but obviously not

1FineDane · 30/08/2019 23:47

I don't eat bread but it seems to be the thing that runs out lol. I do eat bread now and again, I don't actively buy it. If a lot of people run out of certain meds, expect the emergency services to be dealing with people who just need their meds I guess. Again, this won't happen on day 1.

Agree pretty much with you dane. May not be food shortages initially due to stockpiling but after a few weeks we'll see fresh veg and fruit diminish in choice and quantity, day after probably no discernible difference and much jubilant scoffing off leavers. Like medication, no immediate shortage , that will come somewhat later - in fact for the first time I've been given 56 days worth as opposed to a months supply so obviously a conscious decision by my gp.
As far as unrest is concerned, I live in a heavily leave voting area but
pretty deprived economically, politically apathetic and low aspiration due to chronically inadequate schools. I think there will be grumbling initially but feelings will be kept in check by a remorslessly optimistic pro brexit press. Riots, unrest - not so sure...

BumbleBeee69 · 30/08/2019 23:57

Zilcho

Quellium · 31/08/2019 00:02

People won't wait til Nov 1st to panic buy if it's definitely No Deal. That will start much earlier. Shortages possible already on Brexit Day. Only have to look to see how people strip the supermarkets hate before a Bank Holiday or Christmas.

Hermanhessescat · 31/08/2019 00:02

So basically if we leave with no deal on 31st oct, people think nothing will happen ? Head in the sand or tragically deludedConfused

Quellium · 31/08/2019 00:03

*bare not hate

Quellium · 31/08/2019 00:04

Tragically deluded, Herman.

BizzzzyBee · 31/08/2019 00:11

I’ve continued breastfeeding in case I can’t get milk for DC after Brexit. First the deadline was March but then they moved it back by six months. I’m fed up with it!

1FineDane · 31/08/2019 00:11

So it seems people are quietly confident. The only thing that worries me is one particular med. Apart from that, 5p on a pint of milk? I won't notice. I will grumble, but not really notice. If I'm left without this medication though, then all hell could break loose.

OP posts:
Hermanhessescat · 31/08/2019 00:35

Me too - cardiac meds. Didn't ask for any of this. And it won't be just 5p on a pint of milk but 30p extra or more on meat, 10p on eggs - every time. And when we cant 't produce enough to feed everyone, prices will rise even more due to tariffs. Obviously later on we'll be flooded with cheap low quality us stuff putting our own farmers out of business - win win Angry

Daffodil101 · 31/08/2019 00:38

Absolute shitstorm. Avocados not even nearly ready to eat; hysterical journalism, hyperbole, cliche. May have to retire to the drawing room and take tea.

BobTheFishermansWife · 31/08/2019 00:38

Pretty sure there will be no direct major impact on my life straight away. So I'll be doing the same as I have for the past 2 months of my maternity leave, looking after my son.

Hermanhessescat · 31/08/2019 00:42

Impact statements produced by government, warnings by experts involved in farming, car industry, logistics. So informed individuals are talking shit to put it bluntly ?
