Brexit

What would need to happen for you to quantify Brexit as a success and in what timescale ?

I have said that I would apologise if Brexit is marvellous. Expectations have now been managed to such a low bar and the timescale has been extended into the next century by some leavers. Will I get the opportunity to apologise in the next 30 years ?

Vomit inducing comment

TheElementsSong · 09/08/2019 07:44

Your comment is racist crap, which I won’t give you the pleasure of reporting so others can see you for what you are.

Also, the deep irony when that poster is one amongst several Leavers who espouse the blood-and-soil philosophy for their definitions of British patriotism.

PortLouis has nailed his or her colours to the mast then. At least we know we are dealing with an out and out Fascist.

Now if it had been said that AfD wants to create the 4th Reich non of us would have disagreed.

lonelyplanetmum · 09/08/2019 08:13

If we got all the following benefits and quickly I'd call it a success.

That's exactly the kind of Brexit that would get my vote, thank you @lonelyplanetmum

We follow German politics very closely in this house and one of the reasons the AfD has gained ground is because Merkel has moved the CDU towards the left, closing the room which was previously occupied by the SPD, effectively shutting down some of the choice which was previously available to centrists. To suggest AfD voters want to create the 4th Reich is enormously insulting.

I hardly think that it's 'enormously insulting to call out a group with known neo-nazi sympathies.

Exchange rates effect the monetary value of trade, but not the quantity.

Quoi?

Hopelessly wrong.

frumpety · 09/08/2019 20:05

Preferred PortLouis when they were being Donald.

So why have German workers been retiring at 68 to help out the Greek economy where civil servants retire at 55

What makes you think Germans like that idea? Are you happy to work till 68 so that someone else can put their feet up at 55? I would rather quit work and go on benefits than support scroungers.

Greece fudged their way into the EU and for some reason EU has printed unthinkable amounts of money (tax payers money) to keep Greece afloat. Check out;

I'll only consider Brexit a success if there is an economic boom as a result of it.

And there are noticeable improvements in key areas, such as:

Pollution - specifically plastic and textile
Social housing
NHS
Policing
Public transport
Social care
Education
Obesity - if there is widespread government campaign to highlight that it is only second to smoking as cancer causing.

Even the economies of France and Germany are wobbly at the moment. West was always going to struggle once the eastern nations such as; China, India and South Korea got their acts together.

EU mistake was to adopt weaker Eastern European countries in hope that cheap labour would help to subdue the might of the Eastern nations. Has not worked.

What a pity then that both Major and Blair i.e. the UK pushed for their inclusion. No doubt in part to pull them away from Russian influence.

TheElementsSong · 10/08/2019 10:13

the UK pushed for their inclusion

Funny thing is, their alter-ego ended up agreeing with me (in a manner of speaking) when I pointed this out upthread Grin

Another example of Blair being the worst UK PM ever. T May comes second.

She may actually be third. If BJ carries on being a twat he will make her look good.

I think we were promised the exact same benefits we have now + better (for us) trade and influence with the row. Will not affect the peace in NI and keeping all the travel rights we have now. Improved public services and of course the 350 million a week for the NHS. I don't think it's unreasonable to just expect what was promised. I can't see any upside to Brexit but have never wanted to be wrong about something so much in my life, I would be delighted to apologise for my pessimism.
