Local elections dilemma

If I vote for a Labour or Tory councillor in the local elections, will I be told that I have voted in support of Brexit?

Until recently I would have had a dilemma. We have a community group in our area - they tend to be in cahoots with the Libdems and not stand against them which I find a bit annoying but they have to do it that way not to split the anti-Tory vote.

Until very recently they were pushing for a green field development in the area which I oppose so I had to vote Tory to keep their councillors out. Fortunately the council has now been told by the Planning Inspector that the "new village" isn't needed, so I can vote for them again now.

I think the only exception I would make in my plan to vote for anyone but Tories, Labour, Ukip etc would be if I knew the Councillor was excellent.

We've just moved from an area where the Labour Councillor was superb. Always out in the community sorting problems and issues. Always. I would have still voted for them.

I have no idea what to do. Who to vote for. I don’t want to abstain. But not sure what to do. I checked them all out. And the only one I like was the Liberal Democrat.... but I was always told voting for them was an empty vote.

Why would a vote for the LDs in the local elections be an empty vote (or any more of any empty vote than any other vote)?! LDs have lots of councillors
(Ps I’m not (generally) a LD supporter)

Oakenbeach · 13/04/2019 07:42

Also, logically, an individual vote is always going to be “empty” at the end of the day. You’ve more chance of winning the lottery than your vote being the one that tips an election one way or the other.... So vote or don’t vote, but if you do, vote for who you actually want!

It will be almost amusing Confusedhow many people think UKIP is Farage. Or don't realise it is now pretty much EDL. www.thebrexitparty.com and UKIP will split the Leave loving vote as much as the Tiggers and Lib Dem's might split the Remain loving vote.

78percentLindt · 13/04/2019 13:55

Tiggers won't have any candidates for local elections. Think they are looking at the Euro elections. Same for the brexit party.

We've got a choice between

Con
Lab
Lib Dem
UKIP Make Brexit Happen Hmm

In my city the protest party forgot to get the papers in for any of their candidates.

In my ward we have Tory, Labour, Libdem, UKIP
so I have no real choice at all

our local Labour are pro remain but the press will not report it that way

Yaralie · 22/04/2019 19:34

The only good vote is LibDem - the Remain Party,

Don'y forget that any votes cast in 2017 for Labour or Conservative were counted as pro-brexit votes.

If you, like the majority of UK voters do not want any kind of brexit, vote LIbDem.

Love the thought of trouser shitting terror in Westminster Sandman!

Which has duly come to pass. Except that they are trying to spin it as people wanting them to get on with Brexit. One of the local defeated Tories was trying to spin this line - I don't think so chum, in a heavily Remain voting area. I am pretty sure they wanted to see the back of your party, (and in some cases, him personally!)
