Brexit

I didn't vote for a compromise. I voted to remain.

Obviously the above statement is against Brexit means Brexit.

But what does Brexit actually mean? Should those who voted for Brexit now be the ones to make the compromise?

But there is no compromise. You are either a member state or not.

howabout · 06/04/2019 14:44

For all the Prof Curtice fans. His detailed analysis does tend to support DA's view imho as does latest YouGov polling .

However, the link to his site that you provided does not show that - the last but one blog entry which is the most recent one to address the subject mainly discusses the fact that it is difficult to find any Brexit model that commands a model, and that opinion poll responses are highly dependent on how you word the question.

Mistigri · 06/04/2019 14:51

"That commands a majority", oh for an edit function.

howabout · 06/04/2019 15:42

Hence "does tend to" not definitively agrees.

(I would like an edit button too)

jasjas1973 · 06/04/2019 17:21

@Sunshine1239

Have you a link? can't find any recent regional breakdown.

No-deal will never be on the ballot paper, its not deliverable, you'd just have exactly the same arguments all over again as business leaves the UK and sterling fell through the floor if it "won"

Mistigri · 06/04/2019 18:43

I wonder why no mention was made of Scotland and NI?

The article goes on to say that no outcome commands a majority. No deal is marginally more popular in England and Wales than revoke. The article doesn't say what the split looks like if you include the rest of the UK.

Sunshine1239 · 06/04/2019 18:48

It was published everywhere couple of days ago but given it put leave in lead I didn’t expect to find it on threads like this.

It says that given a choice between remain and no deal, no deal won everywhere except scotland and London but the overall was 55/45 I think to leave. If you google I’m sure it’s still online

Sunshine1239 · 06/04/2019 18:50

Sorry -44/42 to leave Scotland included but not NI and these results are with only remain campaigning www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1110000/brexit-news-latest-yougov-poll-no-deal-theresa-may-deal-eu/amp

Mistigri · 06/04/2019 18:56

Another poll shows that 50% of respondents think leaving without a deal would be a bad outcome (versus 20-something % who think it is a desirable outcome).

I think that the results you get depend a lot on the question you ask. I'm not arguing for a majority in favour of revoke, though I suspect you could get a majority if you worded your question carefully. I think the assumption that there is a majority for no deal is just wishful thinking by the usual suspects. A lot of these results are within the margin of error of polling anyway.

Sunshine

Can you stop with the polls thingymebobythingy and just concentrate on why those who voted Brexit are not prepared to compromise?

Start your own thread on the voting issue. See where that gets you.

OP posts:
Sunshine1239 · 06/04/2019 19:13

Placemats you are so rude- you can clearly see that a poster asked me to post the link

Sunshine1239 · 06/04/2019 19:15

There are several others on this thread who posted polls before me - perhaps you didn’t like the result of this one

placemats · 06/04/2019 19:16

I'm not rude, not even so rude.

You my dear are very touchy!

Now, answer the question. Are you prepared to compromise?

OP posts:
placemats · 06/04/2019 19:17

Start your own thread with regard to the polls.

OP posts:
placemats · 06/04/2019 19:18

And then link to them.

Do I have to spoon feed you Sunshine?

OP posts:
Sunshine1239 · 06/04/2019 19:20

I’m happy to compromise with customs union but not a PV as I don’t agree with the delay (in addition to the principle). Plus we own a business and like many see them going under around us. The 12 month delay for another referendum would be a nightmare

twofingerstoEverything · 06/04/2019 20:09

Diane Abbott has admitted a second vote would have the same result.
What does that tell you?
It tells me several things:
Diane Abbott does not have a crystal ball
Diane Abbott frequently gets figures wrong
If a second vote really would have the same result it tells me people have learnt nothing from the debacle of the first one and that 17.4 million people are happy to screw the country.

Bearbehind · 06/04/2019 20:15

Diane Abbott frequently demonstrates she doesn’t know her arse from her elbow.

Whilst I do think many people’s choices have become ingrained, the margin was so small I do think it would tip the other way with another vote, simply because the middle ground aren’t going to vote to make themselves worse off as they couldn’t actually give a shit about the EU.

And that’s what Leavers are afraid of.

Shinesweetfreedom · 06/04/2019 20:20

Fuck me that Sunshine is rude

Cobblersandhogwash · 06/04/2019 20:27

Forty years of bitch fits and lies about the EU and leavers had no plan because they thought they wouldn't win?

I've never heard such pathetic excuses.

There was no plan because they knew the details and the facts about the realities of leaving the EU would not get them votes.

Leave had to lie and cheat to win.

That's why there was and still is no plan.

They are villains.

Mistigri · 06/04/2019 20:30

I no longer think there is a compromise to be had.

It's going to have to be sorted out with another vote, and possibly more than one, i.e. a GE as well. A second referendum will still need a government capable of implementing whatever the decision is.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2019 21:39

Look, if anyone has seen or heard great swathes of people changing their minds towards Remain, point me to them. I live in a strong Leave area and have only heard increasingly more entrenched voices for No Deal.
As much as I don't rate DA, she has a point. And compromise is the only way to go on this.

Walkaround · 06/04/2019 22:00

The polls said Remain was going to win last time around. It turns out pollsters know fuck all. As for voices that people "hear", it stands to reason the only people you will be hearing at the moment are those with extreme opinions. Everyone else just wishes the whole thing would go away before education, health, social welfare, law and order and stable employment have all collapsed under the weight of neglect and underinvestment. The EU wasn't the cause of the country's current problems and it has been a colossal waste of energy arguing about it at a time when the country couldn't afford the loss of attention to what is actually important.
