Which would you prefer?, for me a general election.

If it was an informed opinion, and not a result of illegal activity by the Leave campaigns, it would be valid. So no £350 million for the NHS on the side of the bus, but Vote Leave and risk your medicine supply.

ColdFingered · 04/04/2019 10:03

Re PV, while newspapers like The Mail are on the side of leave, I reckon the result would be very similar. People have just hardened their attitudes. (Wasn't there an opinion poll the other day that said around a quarter of voters favoured no deal!?!)

CatsinSpace · 04/04/2019 10:21

I don't necessarily think remain would win another referendum. As a pp has already said, attitudes have hardened. I don't know any leavers who would now opt for Remain.

I do know several Labour voters (leavers) who would definitely not vote Labour in the next GE.

I have always voted Labour but wouldn't opt for them now, mainly due to the anti-semitism which has appalled me. Corbyn, McDonnell etc would destroy the country IMO.

If there is to be another ref (calling it a PV annoys me intensely for some reason - aren't all elections 'people's votes') then the best tagline for leave is the simplest.

Tell them again!

Penguinpandarabbit · 04/04/2019 10:43

I would not be surprised if leave won again either.

MayhemNowCertain · 04/04/2019 11:28

I would not be surprised if leave won again either

Me neither just to sicken off those bad losers who have labeled leavers as elderly thickhead northerners

Dolly2007 · 04/04/2019 11:31

I think remainers heads are in the sand. Leavers are angry and I'm coming round to a second referendum too. This time though there has to be no revoking. I felt leave would win last time and I kept telling people prior who dismissed me. Most people are shy leavers, but would still vote leave they just don't have rant on about it on social media, hence the "surprise" last time. I know a couple changed from remain to leave none the other way, but I'm certain they're several.

A referendum- I don't understand how a general election will solve Brexit. Although, I can see that a second referendum will cause riots if the result is remain because we will have to listen to all the rubbish about how 'democracy is dead'. The leavers don't want another referendum because they know it was such a marginal win and 3 years means a lot of water under the bridge which may have changed the minds of some of the original leavers and all the teens ( 15/16/17 year olds} who couldn't vote are now over 18 and some of the older voters have since died. A referendum on the actual deal, rather than the theoretical one we had at the time of the referendum would give a much more accurate picture of peoples's views on brexit right now!

QueenKubauOfKish · 04/04/2019 13:00

Referendum - because we need a decision on the mess this particular issue is in right now. Party politics and even a change of party can't give us that, because the main parties don't align along leave/remain lines.

I'm hoping a referendum would let us avoid Brexit now that people have more info and can see the problems it would cause. I can see that a referendum might result in a leave vote and I'd have to suck that up, but at least I'd know we weren't pursuing this shit idea against the majority's wishes. and I could make plans to leave Britain!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/04/2019 13:03

Refurendom.

MotherofPearl · 04/04/2019 13:08

Considering that both the main parties are split by Brexit it's hard to see how a GE would solve things.

A referendum would be risky and not necessarily resolve the matter.

It's either revoke or no deal, and I say that as an entrenched remainer.

QueenKubauOfKish · 04/04/2019 13:15

Surely the government or parliament making a decision to revoke, would upset people more than a referendum result to remain? At least if the country voted to remain, that would be more democratic than just the powers that be denying the first referendum result.

Penguinpandarabbit · 04/04/2019 13:34

I think both revoke or 2nd referendum would cause riots as large groups of people would feel their views and first referendum result had been ignored.

I would also expect a big UKIP vote in any general or European elections.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2019 13:34

PV

Dolly2007 · 04/04/2019 15:12

I expect it would be leave again in a referendum. If I watched BBC news all the time though I would expect remain would win by a landslide. It's interesting seeing the comments on Facebook going through guardian, telegraph, daily mail, mirror it's a big mix but I honestly believe leave will win. I personally would rather no deal vs remain on the ballot as opposed to a May or a Corbyn . What strikes me about this is people are just digging their heels in, on both sides!

2nd referendum.

nespressowoo · 04/04/2019 16:15

Referendum.

prettybird · 04/04/2019 23:17

I'll be more than happy to go out canvassing and campaigning for EP elections. Dh, who is less politically engaged than me, has also said that he wants to canvas and campaign. Smile

We need to get rid of Scotland's shame: the single elected UKIP representative in any capacity in Scotland. I don't mind who they vote for as long as it's not him (he only got in in 2014 because the Lib Dem vote collapsed and the Greens weren't far behind him)

gluteustothemaximus · 05/04/2019 00:51

The problem with the first ref was wanting to kick the elite.

If there's a second ref people will be angry and do further protest voting.

I've had a shit tonne of conversations on social media with leave voters. Asked about problems with Ireland, economic predictions etc. They. Do. Not. Care.

They want a no deal. They want what they voted for.

It's a total utter mess. 2nd ref would be suicide.

I hope we make it to the EU elections. I want to vote some 'unelected' MEPS in.

Dolly2007

Agree, very surprised that Remain expected to win the 2016 referendum, the polls swung around 2 to 4% well within the margin of error and certainly around here (Cornwall) remainers were in short supply.

I agree views have become entrenched but ime the leavers i know just want it over and that's either way, even the most hardened trump supporting brexitiers are sick of it all.

I can't be sure who would win a PV but the questions have to be deliverable and a no-deal win will lead to just more and more argument as to what it means/time scales and of course Govt cannot enact policy that they believe will damage the country... so be prepared for party splits and the growth of the independants!

As i said earlier, Remain V Mays deal, any type of PR will just confuse people, however, i wish the Govt would actually lead the country and revoke :)

MayhemNowCertain · 05/04/2019 08:11

Govt would actually lead the country and revoke

Who has voted for revoke? I don't remember that being put to the public to vote on officially?

FinnegansWhiskers · 05/04/2019 16:30

There's not much point in a GE. There's nobody worth voting for.
There's not much point in another referendum. If remain win there will have to be the best of 3 (and a further £bns out of the public purse). If leave win we're back to square one.
