Surely they can't get that done before the 12th and we will crash out?

Surely if we leave with no deal on the 12th another vote is not required

Sadly, no.

If the WA is not passed, we automatically leave on no deal.

It is the legal default position.

HOC vote on 'no deal' is irrelevant.

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2019 08:38

Exactly so why did a pp say whatever happens next another vote is required.
This thing is a mass of contradictions.

The Cherry motion being voted on today says that if a deal isn’t agreed, then the government must seek a long extension. If that extension isn’t granted, then the government must revoke article 50 to avoid no deal.

After revocation there would then be a public inquiry to determine a reasonable Brexit scenario to put to a 2nd referendum.

This seems entirely reasonable, so just you watch the government vote it down Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2019 08:42

It does seem reasonable. Do we know what time votes are today? I always assumed they were evening but the other day votes were 2.30

Voting starts at 8pm. I think it only started early on Friday so they could get home for the weekend.

woman19 · 01/04/2019 08:48

Cherrys is an SNP motion.
They are always voted down by English MPs.
Vote's at 8 ish tonight. Smile

woman19 · 01/04/2019 08:49

MPs go back to their constituencies on Friday afternoons to work on Saturdays at constituency surgeries.

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2019 09:35

And why is the news reporting that the customers union option had the most support in the last set of votes when that simply isn't the case?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 01/04/2019 09:46

It isn’t that it had the most support in pure votes, it’s that it was the closest to a majority in terms of votes for minus votes against. There were only 8 votes in it.

2nd Referendum was 27 from a majority.

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2019 09:51

Ahh thank you

Because Corbyn bizarrely thinks he would win a GE.

I can't wait till he's replaced and I can start voting labour again

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2019 09:56

Polls yesterday put Labour ahead.

jasjas1973 · 01/04/2019 10:00

So, a GE but what would each party put in their manifestos, could they even agree what their stance on the EU would be?

Labour are less split, so could possibly have a more disciplined GE campaign, that would mean they could just win against a very divided Tory party but probably have to go into coalition with a remain party.

Its not a done deal the EU would grant an extension (for any reason) and at least another year of the UK fucking them about.

However, the Tories wont call one, they may be stupid but they are not suicidal.

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2019 10:05

Labour are less split

The party might be, but their voters are massively! Half ardent remainers, half ardent leavers, it’s no wonder they’ve been fudging their position for so long.

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2019 10:10

Apparently for a GE they would agree to an extension. Even though the message has been no further extension.

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 01/04/2019 10:13

It’s not a done deal the EU would allow an extension but Donald Tusk did stand in the EU parliament and make a speech about not ignoring the 1 million marching for a people’s vote and the 6 million petitioning for revoke, because we are Europeans.

Basically saying they shouldn’t ditch remainers into no deal just because the EU are fed up of it all.

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2019 10:14

Yes good point.
I am fed up of this and fed up with other stuff. I am just fed up.

OP posts:
Quartz2208 · 01/04/2019 10:25

With the Tory Party though the split between remainers and leavers allows for UKIP to come in.

A true Labour supporter would never vote for UKIP so there is nowhere for them to go as there is for the Conservatives

And tbf it sounds like their manifesto might well be fudging it even more by going for a second referendum!

But yes the problem is likely that in order to form a government than there is only one way Labour could go - and as they are very remain...

teyem · 01/04/2019 10:45

They might just not vote - it seems to be an option that a lot of previously content Labour voters seem to be considering for a whole array of reasons.

The80sweregreat · 01/04/2019 10:50

Stealth, sorry to pop your balloon but it's only just started.
If the UK leaves with a deal then they then have to debate a trade deal with the EU amongst over things , sort out trade deals with other countries and all kinds of legislation that makes all this part look easy.
If it's ' no deal' I haven't a clue what they will do. I'm no expert but listening to pundits n politicians it becomes clear this could drag on and on for years and years.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 01/04/2019 10:52

A GE is a displacement activity. The country is in a total mess and the only solution is for MPs to work their way through it and find whatever
crap compromise there is to be had.
Of course, they are desperate not to do this, hence the calls for a GE.

Mistigri · 01/04/2019 11:56

Surely if we leave with no deal on the 12th another vote is not required!

Very likely to lead to the collapse of the government and a GE. So yes, all options lead to another vote.

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2019 17:29

Apparently Labour tonight are whipping for Common Market 2.0, Customs Union, 2nd Referendum, but are abstaining on the Cherry vote.

noblegiraffe · 01/04/2019 17:31

Remember when Corbyn refused to meet Theresa May unless she took no-deal off the table?

Now he’s making his MPs abstain on doing exactly that. Hmm

billysboy · 01/04/2019 17:36

Corbyn and Abbot , bring it on !
