Brexit

Does anyone still think that Brexit won't result in problems with medication?

King's fund analysis today suggests wa could affect the affordability and supply of drugs. A no deal Brexit could potentially cause significant disruption to medical supplies. I suspect there's a good chance people will die from this. I'm sure they'll comfort themselves with the thought that by 2069 we'll be reaping the benefits.

We already have supply issues for many drugs mostly resulting from the nhs refusing to pay market rates and expecting significant discounts on western world pricing. As soon as there are supply side shortages (which are much more common than you would think) drugs go to the markets that pay the best prices and not to those that pay developing world prices. Brexit will be a useful scapegoat should the nhs choose to try and drive prices further down or maintain the current prices, but it will not problem at all if they pay enough to the manufacturers.

It's frightening isn't it? I hope and pray none of us end up in that situation.

People need to prepare for this and stock up
Alas, no stockpiling possible for us as my DH is on controlled drugs. In the event of a medication shortage, the NHS will obviously need to prioritise people on life-saving drugs (and I hope they can manage to do so). We'll have to leave the country and hope we can somehow get him into medical care elsewhere. I'm not really stockpiling food as a result, as I give it a month after Brexit before we have to leave the country.

Still, it'll all be worth it for a blue passport.

I’ve been dipping in and out of Brexit really. I’m a brutish passport holder. But not part of the U.K. am a crown dependency. So wasn’t allowed a vote re Brexit.

It’s alarming how it could and probably will affect everyone. I hadn’t thought about drug shortages. I’m not on anything which is affected (yet). But we’ve been told here to plan for other options re medication if there’s a no deal Brexit.

We’ve also been told that in the event of a no deal we’ll most likely be cut off from food supply’s for a while until our gov can establish supply chains with France. Why they aren’t trying to establish these now I have no idea....

I thought the Jersey States had already sorted this out (or are you on Guernsey)? A while ago I was checking Jersey's no deal preparations (when we thought we were leaving in March) and was sufficiently reassured to go ahead and book our holiday for earlier this month.

Nope am In jersey.

We are told that the states have sorted everything. But that they are looking into other options too.

To be fair though given the circumstances with the ferry companies as they stand now I don’t know why we’re not importing more from Europe. Or why “they” got rid of the food storage warehouses here.... absolute disaster if the boats don’t come in for a few days due to weather.
