Brexit

Does anyone still think that Brexit won't result in problems with medication?

King's fund analysis today suggests wa could affect the affordability and supply of drugs. A no deal Brexit could potentially cause significant disruption to medical supplies. I suspect there's a good chance people will die from this. I'm sure they'll comfort themselves with the thought that by 2069 we'll be reaping the benefits.

I feel like this is just another way to hit us ill, low income people while we're down Sad

Tomtontom · 22/02/2019 15:10

The lists above are existing shortages, many have been in shortage for some months and are unrelated to Brexit.

Should we leave the Customs Union expect that list to grow exponentially.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2019 15:46

Send them this way after you’re done, Stealth.

LikeACowsOpinion · 22/02/2019 16:15

I've been to 5 different chemists today to try and get my painkiller (a strong, controlled drug) script filled. No one had any in stock and the system will not allow them to order any more at the moment.

I have about 2 weeks worth left.

It's not life or death, no, but it's going to affect my quality of life greatly. I can see myself ending up bed ridden again; I've already rationed myself greatly to keep them lasting as long as possible (at detriment to myself.)

It's fucking shambolic.

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2019 16:17

Someone on another thread is talking about how everything was fine at the millennium.
I can feel my blood pressure rising. Hope I don't need medication for it.

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2019 16:18

And the fact that in 2019 you're pleased you'll likely just be bedridden says it all. Who voted for this shit storm.

SneakyGremlins · 22/02/2019 16:26

Yes but the millennium was unavoidable.

With Brexit at least at one point that isn't the case

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2019 16:33

And planned for! And managed.

Stealth I hadn't thought of it like that. Being grateful for 'just' being bedridden, in huge amounts of (previously controlled) pain and unable to care for my DD properly.

Government are basically shrugging their shoulders and saying 'well you're not dead yet...'
Fucking fabulous

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2019 17:00

And they had some sort of idea about what they were planning for with the millennium bug.

The fact that no-one has the slightest clue what might be happening in a month’s time must make planning difficult.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 22/02/2019 17:12

The drugs.com list is from the USA and largely irrelevant to the UK (except, for example, where the shortage relates to a worldwide shortage of the active substance).

The PSNC list is about current UK shortages, which have been getting worse and worse over the last few years.

There’s no doubt that a no deal Brexit will result in much worse shortages. If there’s a cunning plan, it’s being withheld from those ordinary mortals working in NHS medicines supply.

Paradyning · 22/02/2019 20:09

I've been trying to stockpile my dc's drug so that they don't fucking die.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2019 20:38

Thanks WiseUp. Good to get some insight into that.

StealthPolarBear · 26/07/2019 07:59

No deal looking highly likely now. Idiots will have blood on their hands

OP posts:
MrPan · 26/07/2019 08:08

Blood - will not matter a jot. Quick rinse and it's gone.

Politicians are ruthless. We know this from history. We know previously stable countries have disintegrated. The UK is not immune to ruthless politicians. Rather we have encouraged and voted for them.

The greatest car boot sale in history is about to take place:

Like we're some turkey ripe for the plucking.

The greatest car boot sale in history is about to take place:

But read on. Nancy Pelosi has made it clear that a Trade Deal with the US depends on the GFA being honoured. Which does Johnson value most? Leaving on 31st October with No Deal or Trade with US?

(Am I clutching at straws here?)

Songsofexperience · 27/07/2019 10:45

I woukd agree that Pelosi's statement is a source of hope but the Democrats aren't in power. I don't know enough about US politics to gauge if indeed the FTA would be blocked or if trump could force it through regardless.

Mistigri · 27/07/2019 13:55

Dems have a majority in Congress, and a trade deal would require congressional approval. This is how I understand it.

Screamanger · 27/07/2019 14:06

Yes there will be shortages, and yes people will die because of it.

People need to prepare for this and stock up, even if it means buying drugs online from Canada. (Great source by the way)

Also prescription antibiotics are available over the counter at pet shops.

Clavinova · 27/07/2019 14:38

Screamanger
Nonsense

Screamanger · 27/07/2019 14:41

Clavinova
Why?

Dapplegrey · 27/07/2019 14:52

LikeaCows - did the chemists give a reason why they couldn’t get hold of it?
My dh needed codeine linctus (he had a prescription) last year and two chemists said they couldn’t get hold of any but then another one said they’d had no problem.

Peregrina · 27/07/2019 14:54

Do you live in the UK Screamanger?

Screamanger · 27/07/2019 14:55

Peregrina

Not right now, however I lived there for 30 years.
