Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

Murinae, I’ve been experimenting with tinned food and my youngest likes the chicken in sauce, with a handful of tinned garden peas or sweet corn, mixed in and tinned potatoes mashed with butter on top. I’m trying to work out how I’d cope without frozen or fresh foods.

Murinae · 17/02/2019 21:30

I’ve no idea if it’s nice though it is proper cooked ham not spam. It was £4 a tin so not cheap!

Beaverhausen · 17/02/2019 21:32

Marks and sparks corned beef is delish and their tinned meats are really nice.

Murinae · 17/02/2019 21:34

I’ve already got corned beef in my stockpile as I make corned beef hash once every couple of weeks anyway so will eat that even if no food shortages.

We had lots of corn beef 'ash when I was little. With pickled red cabbage. Not sure if she's made that since my dad died.

IDoN0tCare · 17/02/2019 21:41

looks over shoulder at QueenieInFrance following and takes evasive manoeuvres. Hmm

You’ll NEVER find my stash!! Angry

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/02/2019 21:48

Spam. I love it. I also like plastic cheese and plastic ham. Spam is salty, smooth, melt in the mouth deliciousness, but it is not like meat in texture or taste. Very similar to cheap tinned ham.

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/02/2019 21:49

I remember pickled red cabbage.

FranklinTheCat · 17/02/2019 21:51

@Murinae, are you me?! That was my exact shopping list in Marks this week Grin

FranklinTheCat · 17/02/2019 21:58

Out of interest, what do your DPs/DHs think of stockpiling? Mine thinks I'm being a loon but has decided to humour me and has not complained about the extra cost or the size of the stockpile - yet. Although comments were made when I discovered I had amassed 14 kitchen rolls.Blush But he clearly thinks I'm being ridiculous. He's quite intelligent so I don't see how he isn't anticipating short term disruption/long-term price rises. At least he isn't actually complaining.

I am in no way a prepper but we normally keep pretty full cupboards/freezer anyway and since Christmas, I've been stockpiling. I did a big shop at the beginning of February (about £50 worth) and am adding to it each week.

The cupboard under the stairs is now full (am using Wilko plastic boxes), as is the tins shelf, and have nappies and kitchen roll in spare room cupboard. Waiting for pay day to get some water in (will have to hide that or he really will think I've lost the plot), more nappies, wipes and loo rolls, and start thinking about the freezer and fresh stuff that keeps (halloumi, chorizo, etc).

I must thank @bellinisurge, whose advice has been really helpful, along with all the other regulars on here.

IDoN0tCare · 17/02/2019 22:05

I’m surprised at how many people are stocking up on foods from M&S, as you can buy many of the brand named foods from places like home bargains and B&M. Since stocking will be on top of your usual shopping and we don’t know how our finances will be affected by Brexit, it makes sense to be careful with money, while still building up your stock.

FranklinTheCat · 17/02/2019 22:09

All I've bought in Marks have been the chicken in white sauce and the steak in gravy. I agree I certainly wouldn't use them for branded stuff - that's what B&M is for Grin

Indigochi · 17/02/2019 22:15

@ourkidmolly couldn't agree more. All well and good to be prepared but some people seem to want dire things to happen for abit of drama. Doesn't seem healthy to think like that

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2019 22:17

My dh is fully on board, if slightly in denial at how much tea he gets through. I'll be buggered if I'm going through brexit with a caffeine deprived dh.

It actually alarms me that he is supportive. He's not a forward planner or one who gets anxious.

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/02/2019 22:26

Ex knows I am forward purchasing. Just not to what extent. Told him to forward plan too. I have secret stashes as ds gets through a lot of food. Also if he finds it he will eat it. (Ds)

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/02/2019 22:28

I have put nuts and seeds in a tin on top of the cupboard, and the mugshots in a different tin. Just so you lot can remind me when I have lost them. Blush

FranklinTheCat · 17/02/2019 22:34

Yep, I did have to point out to mine that the stash is the stash and is not for helping himself to at this point - yes, he does still need to buy his favourite cereal bars, etc. Had to remind him of The Rules (what's on the shelf is fair game, what's in the boxes is not).

littlecloudling · 17/02/2019 22:40

Why the loo roll? Where is loo roll produced?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2019 22:44

It's the wood pulp for loo roll that's the issue. We import it.

IDoN0tCare · 17/02/2019 22:53

Why the loo roll? Where is loo roll produced?!

Well in my case, it’s the ibs plus the 16 tins of beans and 9 tins of prunes. 😁

goldengummybear · 17/02/2019 22:59

85% of loo roll is imported according to the Financial Times

KatyMac · 17/02/2019 23:44

I think this sentence says it all "Really feel it is all ludicrous and sensible at the same" thanks HeronLanyon

Yes IBS & toilet rolls push it much higher up the need pyramid

I think hope it's unlikely people will starve - but I reckon food could get boring for a bit - so I have concentrated on condiments, stock pots, sauces, treats and stuff as well as meals

But it's been expensive (hope to save in future months if it all dies down) and space is a nightmare

My MIL/SIL are naturally preppers so I don't worry, my mum thinks it will 'be fine' and despite suggesting she stockpiles, sorry forward shops, Whiskey & cigarettes she says 'it will be fine'

Well we dont drink or smoke so we won't be sharing what we haven't got!

Medication still really worries me, really, really worries me

EmmaGrundyForPM · 18/02/2019 03:24

Does anyone know which medications are likely to be affected? I know insulin has been mentioned which must be terrifying to those who are dependent on it. Are there any other specific ones?

careerchange456 · 18/02/2019 07:00

Thoughts needed - I am prepping but I work full time and kids are in full time nursery. Normally I don't really cook in the week because DC eat at nursery other than a quick snack before bed and I have breakfast at home, lunch at work and then soup, toast, etc for tea at home.

Obviously I'm assuming the nursery and my workplace will have food supplies issues so what do I do? Stockpile as if I'm going to have to feed all of us for every meal or continue to get extras but more for the weekends/to top us up midweek? What are other people planning if their kids normally eat at nursery/school?
