What does it actually mean?

He’s tabled a motion but the gov say they don’t have time to discuss it. So it just just be ignores?

Does she just carry on with discussions for her deal/no deal?

I think Howabout is right. I also think that TM is playing straight into JC's hands.

Over the past 2 years or so, he has proved time and again that TM has only eyes for Brexit. She dismisses concerns over child poverty, Universal Credit, the appalling state of our transport system, education, etc. even though JC has raised them continually.

She now tells us that the Government doesn't have time for a No Confidence debate and vote (they had time for their Party one last week, though Hmm). She's effectively telling us that she doesn't have time for concerns raised about her leadership by the Opposition parties. That comes across as arrogant and dictatorial.

JC can now say to the electorate at the next GE:
"Here is a woman, and a Government, that couldn't give a damn about anything or anyone other than themselves. They certainly don't give a damn about you! See how often I've tried to raise your concerns with her and she won't listen!"
and he has a wealth of evidence to back it up.

Going by the last GE, where he turned around so many people and nearly won, I think he could pull it off this time.

Actually other way around. The Tories and DUP will rally around her over this no cinfidence vote.

His personal ratings are lower than Mays

CottonTailRabbit · 18/12/2018 13:11

He has noticed that people have noticed that he has zero impact on anything. So he did something. Shame he chose to do something that has zero impact on anything.

He's one of those types who think that making a statement or tabling an amendment or adjusting a proposed policy paper is the same as actually doing something that has an impact on ordinary people's lives. It isn't. Nothing he does actually changes anything for any ordinary person. Bloody useless opposition. Bloody useless at holding the government to account. I wish there could be a vote of no confidence in the opposition's ability to oppose that then meant they had to change leader if they lost.

"Actually other way around. The Tories and DUP will rally around her over this no cinfidence vote."

Yes, I know: As I said, I think they're meant to.
You're focussing on Party politics and Brexit. JC is looking ahead to the next General Election.
If the Tories and DUP are supporting a leader who cares only for Brexit and ignores every other issue, why should ordinary people vote for them?

CottonTailRabbit · 18/12/2018 14:23

Why would anybody vote for someone who has demonstrated less impact than a shred of limp lettuce?

howabout · 18/12/2018 14:33

Big win for JC yesterday. The ONS have given their heads a wobble and now agree with him on the sham that is student "loans" - adds £12bn a year to the Tory Govt deficit calculations. Labour's last GE manifesto already had this factored in.

Only a matter of time before they start looking at re-nationalisation and the savings from investment in social housing.

SillySallySingsSongs · 18/12/2018 14:43

Big win for JC yesterday.

In a paralell universe or Corbynistas heads maybe.

NotDavidTennant · 18/12/2018 14:53

We're less than 100 days away from crashing out of the EU without a deal! Damn right the government should be focusing on Brexit and putting everything else on the back burner.

If Corbyn were any kind of opposition leader he would be coming up with his own Brexit proposals instead of playing these silly games.

TiddleTaddleTat · 18/12/2018 15:26

We're less than 100 days away from crashing out of the EU without a deal!

It was May's premature triggering of Article 50 that caused that. She has used the 'ticking clock' to pile pressure on the negotiations, waiting until the last few weeks to force a decision between her deal and no deal.

bellinisurge · 18/12/2018 15:32

@howabout - how can anything that is going on be described as a big win for anybody unless they win millions on the lottery, convert it into gold and fuck off out of here.

howabout · 18/12/2018 15:37

bellini some of us are not motivated by personal monetary gain. Shock

bellinisurge · 18/12/2018 15:40

@howabout , if Corbyn was any good he would be getting stuck in. In fact, he would have done so ages ago. At best this no confidence bollocks proves ERG and DUP back May over Corbyn. Big fucking wow.

howabout · 18/12/2018 15:52

Of course ERG and DUP and Grieve et al plus half of PLP support May over Corbyn. Given that what exactly could he do other than sit on his hands while they destroy each other?

bellinisurge · 18/12/2018 16:00

A long time ago, he could started fighting against no deal. Making the national dialogue about getting that off the table if he couldn't think of anything else to talk about.
It will hurt the poorest and most vulnerable worst of all if we No Deal. Surely he and his momentum minions could be making national news noise about that. And don't give me shit about the media not covering him. Shout loudly and clearly and everyone hears you.
He just wants chaos to bring a socialist dawn or some such shit.

jasjas1973 · 18/12/2018 16:10

Corbyn is no leader, certainly not a patch on Ian Blackford of the SNP or Caroline Lucas.

JC is out foxed by May time and time again and she is hardly a brilliant performer.

Since i ve been off sick, i ve listened to PMQ's, he just lacks that killer instinct and lets May off the hook, she must think she is blessed having such an idiot in opposition.

Given how Labour voters voted in the referendum (65/35) in favour of remain, he is also a fool, he'll soon lose the younger vote too.

I believe there was a poll going around that put Labour 18 points in front of the Tories if they backed Remain, this is backed up by Labour private polling too.

howabout · 18/12/2018 16:12

bellini Corbyn fighting against No Deal would have been almost guaranteed to unite Tory MPs / DUP behind No Deal. Perhaps if he had done that then the EU would have negotiated more sensibly but I doubt it.

bellinisurge · 18/12/2018 16:23

@howabout - I am pretty certain that making a national dialogue about no deal will have flushed out Tories that are also against No Deal. If journalists had taken up this dialogue and started talking about it, they could have put pressure on people like Ken Clarke to speak even louder.
I'm hoping that this will start anyway without Corbyn or the media will just have a field day wetting itself about No Deal stories. This is how Trump got forward- his shit makes great TV. No Deal makes great TV.
Being grown up and sensible and talking about compromise in the national interest doesn't make great TV. But maybe that voice will be heard.
