Brexit

Can we critique TM’s letter because it doesn’t seem to be based in reality to me

How exactly are we regaining control of our borders, money and laws?

Does she honestly think if she says it enough it’s true?

And that's what you've got. It's just a different version from your own 'leave' fantasy.

bellinisurge · 26/11/2018 08:31

@InfiniteSheldon - what did you vote for and how would a withdrawal agreement look for you if it was what you wanted. Remember it is a withdrawal agreement not a trade agreement.

Peregrina · 26/11/2018 08:47

I am tired of seeing Leavers moaning about May being a Remainer, or should that not be a 'Remoaner'?

You had two Leaver candidates for PM in Gove and Leadsom - neither managed to get themselves elected. The third obvious candidate, Johnson, ran away to play cricket.

May put Davis in charge of the Brexit negotiations and he couldn't be bothered to do the job.

We have had two and a half years of 'You lost', and ' I am happy to trust the Government' from a number of Leave posters. We have had two years of asking Leavers what they want, with most rehashing soundbites. We almost never got a reply, just the stock 'I don't have to answer', ' I am being bullied', or 'I am bored'.

You are now seeing the beginnings of what you voted for Leavers - pot luck/pig in a poke/blind Brexit - take your pick as to what you call it. Start owning it. Even Gove has managed to do that. (So far, no doubt fancying his chances still at the PM's job.)

Bearbehind · 26/11/2018 09:16

Not at all what I voted for I voted Leave

TM is saying we are leaving on 29th March.

That was always the problem with voting for the unknown and passing the responsibility to the government to do ‘what was best’

Leavers have no one to blame but themselves for the fact we’re not really leaving at all.

OP posts:
Buteo · 26/11/2018 09:18

Not at all what I voted for I voted Leave

Oh the irony. You put a tick in the “Leave the European Union” box on the ballot paper and we will be leaving the EU on March 29th.

It exactly fulfills what you voted for.

Peregrina · 26/11/2018 09:35

I could add to my earlier post, that Rees-Mogg didn't manage to get his 48 votes either! Why don't any of them want to step up since they are so convinced that they can do better?

lljkk · 26/11/2018 09:57

The thinking is that the usurpers are waiting until the vote on withdrawal deal fails (? 12 December), then the 48 letters will finally be there. Tories can only use the 48-letters once a year so they are waiting until their maximum chances of them being successful.

TheElementsSong · 26/11/2018 11:24

How can it be "not what Leavers voted for" when (as we and still are constantly told) Leavers knew all along, with perfect foresight, every detail of what they were voting for?

DarlingNikita · 27/11/2018 10:20

Even the holy grail FOM restriction isn’t going to happen to any further extent than it could always have done

How come? I thought she wanted and was getting stricter rules.

1tisILeClerc · 27/11/2018 10:26

I believe FoM stops after transition not on March 29th 2019 UNLESS the UK crashed out.

Bearbehind · 27/11/2018 10:56

How come? I thought she wanted and was getting stricter rules.

Because those stricter rules could have been imposed whilst in the EU.

I haven’t seen anything that suggests the controls are more stringent than those we could have always enforced.

And, as above, they don’t even apply until the end of the transition period unless it’s no deal.

OP posts:
DarlingNikita · 27/11/2018 12:28

Thanks Bear. It's a totally meaningless gesture then, isn't it? I despair.

Graphista · 27/11/2018 14:14

Oooh I've been waiting for someone to start a thread but wasn't brave enough to start my own.

"When I became your prime minister the United Kingdom had just voted to leave the European Union.

and no other bugger wanted the job

From my first day in the job, I knew I had a clear mission before me – a duty to fulfil on your behalf: to honour the result of the referendum and secure a brighter future for our country by negotiating a good Brexit deal with the EU.

no thought whatsoever for Remainers then who also deserve her consideration

Throughout the long and complex negotiations that have taken place over the last year and a half, I have never lost sight of that duty.

really? Just all your other duties then?

Today, I am in Brussels with the firm intention of agreeing a Brexit deal with the leaders of the other 27 EU nations

It will be a deal that is in our national interest – one that works for our whole country and all of our people, whether you voted ‘Leave’ or ‘Remain’.

aye right! Come on that's not possible

It will honour the result of the referendum.

back to pleasing brexiters then

We will take back control of our borders, by putting an end to the free movement of people once and for all.

patently not what remainers want at all and a major issue for expats in both directions. Plus she's not said how this will work

Instead of an immigration system based on where a person comes from, we will build one based on the skills and talents a person has to offer.

i would actually be fine with this as long as it's fair and as long as asylum seekers treated fairly which I don't think will happen

We will take back control of our money, by putting an end to vast annual payments to the EU.

and what about the vast subsidies they give us? The benefits of trading with Europe to British businesses?

Instead, we will be able to spend British taxpayers’ money on our own priorities, like the extra £394m per week that we are investing in our long-term plan for the NHS.

except this is the lie we now know was a lie that was on that stupid bus sign!

And we will take back control of our laws, by ending the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice in the UK.

this scares me the most. Especially under this govt. paves the way to treat anyone lower than upper middle class like shit. Already treating working class like shit. I predict workers rights the first thrown under the bus!

In future, our laws will be made, interpreted and enforced by our own courts and legislatures.

the eu never prevented this, just prevented them from being overly draconian

We will be out of EU programmes that do not work in our interests: out of the Common Agricultural Policy, that has failed our farmers, and out of the Common Fisheries Policy, that has failed our coastal communities.

i think they may be in for a shock currently farmers get £3bn in eu subsidies? U.K. Govt saying they're going to cover that - but only temporarily

Instead, we will be able to design a system of agricultural support that works for us and we will be an independent coastal state once again, with full control over our waters.

aye sure. Supported by what? U.K. Govt policies over last 40 years have resulted in lost skills they aren't immediately replaced. Also we have much less farmland now

The deal also protects the things we value.

vague

EU citizens who have built their lives in the United Kingdom will have their rights protected, as will UK citizens living elsewhere in the EU.

i've seen nothing on how this will be achieved if there's no freedom of movement legally

A free trade area will allow goods to flow easily across our borders, protecting the many skilled jobs right across the country that rely on integrated supply-chains.

how?

Because our European friends will always be our allies in the fight against terrorism and organised crime, the deal will ensure that security co-operation will continue, so we can keep our people safe.

again how? Why would they support us if we're not paying in or contributing politically?

As prime minister of the United Kingdom, I have from day one been determined to deliver a Brexit deal that works for every part of our country – for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, for our Overseas Territories like Gibraltar, and also for the Crown Dependencies.

please! The ministers you've assigned to crucial areas eg Northern Ireland have admitted they're CLUELESS as to how brexit affects their office

This deal will do that.

still no mention of exactly how

Crucially, it will protect the integrity of our United Kingdom and ensure that there will be no hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland – so people can live their lives as they do now.

NI people thoughts on this? I've seen no guarantees on this

It is a deal for a brighter future, which enables us to seize the opportunities that lie ahead

vague empty words

Outside the EU, we will be able to sign new trade deals with other countries and open up new markets in the fastest-growing economies around the world.

yet no consideration for the fact these suppliers are further away so transport costs ALONE will push prices up

With Brexit settled, we will be able to focus our energies on the many other important issues facing us here at home: keeping our economy strong, and making sure every community shares in prosperity; securing our NHS for the future, giving every child a great start in life, and building the homes that families need; tackling the burning injustices that hold too many people back, and building a country for the future that truly works for everyone.

our economy is fucked! People are literally dying of poverty. homelessness, food bank use and crime are up, you're secretly screwing up the nhs so you can privatise it. Clearly no empathy for those struggling and dying

On 29 March next year, the United Kingdom will leave the European Union.

you sure about that?

We will then begin a new chapter in our national life."

and heaven help us!

"Almost every paragraph is a lie - either directly untrue or a lie by omission." Or just vague bullshit. It's insulting to our intelligence.

"We’ve lost our seat at the table and still have to abide by the rules." That's my interpretation of this supposed deal too.

"If she'd had a 'normal' set of issues to deal with she probably would have made a good PM." Really? Based on what?!

The poisoned chalice was not forced down her throat (as it has been for Remainers) she snatched it and took a big gulp in return for the power & status of being pm.

Giantkitten that analysis is spot on to me

"every comment on his page is raging and saying they'll never vote Tory again..." Well every cloud...

"he says. “I have colleagues whose jobs are 100 per cent European-funded who voted to come out. And I ask them why and they say, ‘I couldn’t tell you. Just gut feeling.’ ” " fucking idiots frankly - so voted to make themselves redundant! But reluctantly have to agree with those who say why the fuck didn't the remain politicians and lobbyists do a better job and TELL people this was the situation in a more vocal and obvious way?

"Why don't any of them want to step up since they are so convinced that they can do better?" Because they're nothing but spineless bullies.

1tisILeClerc · 27/11/2018 14:33

{Just gut feeling.’ ” " fucking idiots frankly - so voted to make themselves redundant! }
I can only hope that they will be turned down for Universal Credit.

Graphista · 27/11/2018 15:40

They won't though will they. But they also won't consider themselves "benefit scroungers"

Daft twats!

HollowTalk · 27/11/2018 15:42

She's insane, but where the hell is the opposition?

Bearbehind · 27/11/2018 17:24

Good work graphista 😆

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 27/11/2018 18:02

That's an excellent analysis, Graphista - it's quite scary to think this is actually happening.

Graphista · 27/11/2018 18:32

Thank you Blush

I find it all bloody terrifying

Not at all what I voted for

We are leaving. The referendum didn't say how we would leave. Don't you dare try and weasel out of it!

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 27/11/2018 18:52

UK citizens elsewhere in the EU certainly don't have their rights protected. They effectively become disenfranchised. And what about the reciprocal pension agreement across the EU? And the fact that they can no longer move to work or retire? And what about healthcare. Hung out to fucking dry is the phrase I would use.

Surfskatefamily · 27/11/2018 19:02

Its not a particularly easy job. Every time she tries to make headway with anything another politician leader or god knows who else block it. Id bloody hate to be pm. Im behind her 100% and hope the leaders of the other 27 eu states can kindly agree so we can get brexit sorted and carry on with life

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 27/11/2018 19:13

The rest of the EU have agreed this is the only deal we will be getting Surf. The trouble is it is a pile of shite. It is to be seen if it will get through Parliament.

YeOldeTrout · 27/11/2018 19:31

There isn't time to create another W-deal b4 29.3.

Even if every deadline was extended, would a 'better' W-deal actually get negotiated? The withdrawal terms must be a mediocre set of prospects at best, no matter what, due to each side's red lines.

Everyone is confusing the future trade deal with the withdrawal deal. The future is still to be decided.
