Tick tick tick.

What do we think?

Yes? No?

Another week of wtf-ing at British politics.

The Mail had a list of 23 at 6.30pm last night, but the Telegraph added Goldsmith and Cash to the list with its front page story. So as far as know its 25 public with the Mail reporting they were 'stuck' on 37.

There were 35 ERG members at the meeting last week.

Survation @ survation
Good morning. With Conservative MPs currently consulting local associations about a potential confidence vote in the Prime Minister, on behalf of Mail on Sunday, we interviewed 505 Conservative Councillors Friday-Saturday and this is what they told us:
www.survation.com/conservative-councillors-want-mps-to-back-may-in-a-potential-vote-of-confidence/
Conservative councillors want MPs to back May in a potential vote of confidence

Worth stressing that councillors are not necessarily representative of the grass roots membership but they are a significant part and have significant influence.

If ERG MPs have gone back to their constituencies to check with their local party whether they should submit a letter of no confidence or not, then you have to wonder which way its gone.

It begs the question of whether even JRM is out of touch with the grassroots.

I'd say this is the strongest sign yet, that May might just survive.

This deal gives us no voice, no votes, no MEPs, no commissioner.”

Yes, Nadine. In. simple. words. it's. a quid. pro. quo.* You. want. out. You. don't. get. the. benefits.

Nadine could listen to Theresa when she says 'Leave means Leave' which surprisingly means that we leave, as in 'No more' and 'it all stops'.

Wot, no SPAM? You of all should not be 'antispamist'. For those that would like SPAM it will reduce the pressure on those who like identifiable food.

Ds is currently doing a Politics and International Relations degree at Aberdeen Uni and was down last night (went to the Scotland-SA game yesterday Sad with my dad and then came home for the night).

He had a Politics tutorial on Thursday afternoon (the lecturer was somewhat distracted/excited/bemused by everything going on Grin). They've been given the task of thinking of three benefits to the UK of leaving the EU, and of three benefits to the EU of the UK leaving.

He's really struggling as every "benefit" has a greater counter argument.

UK

  1. The UK can stop paying in "vast" sums to the EU but it was only 0.7% of GDP Hmm, which was more than paid for by the increased growth resulting from the larger (and geographically close) market we have access to - and which has been subsumed by the decreased growth compared to the rest of the EU since we voted to leave Sad

  1. Greater control over immigration but we were always to control non-EU immigration (and we weren't part of Schengen so had control in case that other EU countries were too "lax" Hmm) and we chose not to use the controls we did have available to us Confused And if the CTA continues as part of the WA, then "illegals" (by UK standards Hmm) can still come in via Ireland Confused

  1. The UK can sign trade deals with any country it wants to but it will be negotiating as a smaller country without many natural resources (except for Scotland Wink) and has failed to make the most of the trade it could do (cp Germany, France, Belgium...) Confused

The EU
  1. It would be rid of the troublesome country that didn't actually want to be a member and was/is a disruptive influence

  1. Once the shock to the fixed costs in the EU budget has been absorbed (which is a negative), the actual contributions per capita will actually go up as the UK is only about 8th in the list of contributors (alongside Italy?). And the EU might actually be able to plan better without the UK's disruptive influence Hmm

  1. There has been a positive impact on a number of E27 countries with various EU agencies (like the EMA) moving to them and UK banks and organisations transferring personnel, funds and/or investment to them.

As you can see - he's found the benefits to the EU easier than the benefits to the UK Confused

Where is that talking rat from 'Horrible Histories' when you need him. He probably understands a lot more than many in the present government.

To quote rattus rattus himself 'the rat knows all'.

just Grin Shock Grin Shock at Nadine Dorries. Do you think now that leavers are waking up to the idea that leaving the EU actually means ... leaving the EU - no voice, no vote, no MEPs - because we are no longer in the club ... they might start to change their mind? (I won't hold my breath.)

What exactly did they think leave - and indeed their own slogan 'leave means leave' - meant?

I read 23 confirmed letters in the Guardian, so if it's now on 25, that's nowhere near where they 'should' be.

Plus the reports saying that if May did face a confidence vote, over 100 votes against her might fatally weaken her authority..have they not noticed that that's already happened and she's kept going regardless? The ERG must be thinking they'd have to win any vote outright because if May wins by any margin, however small, she's going nowhere.

Andrew Marr showing his true colours this morning. I'm deeply frustrated with Labour, but his contempt for Chakrabarti is quite clear. Unpleasant viewing.

We he’s gone for completely the wrong approach. Leaving the EU isn’t about tangible benefits, it’s all about the “feels”

  1. we get to stick two fingers up to the EU whilst shouting “you’re not the boss of me”

  2. less foreigners coming over. This is mainly important to people who live in the least multicultural areas of the U.K.

  3. Britain will be great again! Or something.

Raab is on now. When asked if we are leaving the EU, we are leaving ‘emotionally’ Confused
He’s now banging on about the EU blackmailing and bullying us. FFS
