Tick tick tick.

What do we think?

Yes? No?

Another week of wtf-ing at British politics.

I think May and her plan will be signed by the Commons and she'll be the leader of the Tories at the next election. First, the EU looks like not wanting to negotiate further by putting a price for a longer transition - 10 billion pounds. Second, it looks like the moderates in the party have had enough of the extreme right when a default no deal could happen unless a deal is agreed by the HOC.

Reality is finally here.

Thank you again, Red - I can't believe how quickly these threads fill up.

Exciting times.

I don't think there will be a leadership challenge _ I suspect the sharks are biding their time to let May take charge and then swoop in to 'save' us.

I hope somebody takes a heavy object and knocks some sense into Nadine Dorries to save us all banging our heads on the wall.

I am just staggered by the total ineptitude of the so called 'ruling classes'.
The 27 EU commissioners and Mr Barnier have jointly said, conveniently in English for the hard of thinking, THIS IS THE DEAL, take it or leave it.

I must admire the attempts by the SPAM makers to get the product sold with all those Frankenstein variants. In the new UK they can rise again with the 'Its meat in a tin' without having to be too detailed about which animal. May I suggest a new 'roadkill' range. Badger, Fox, Rabbit and maybe a 'Special' which would be meat from something even they can't identify.
Now, back to breakfast.

Good grief, I've barely even started the last thread! Thanks Red for the sterling work.

I was just about to say that Dorries really is a very unique kind of idiot...but then I remembered the rest of 'em.

I don't think there will be a challenge to May. And I think the WA will go through, just. Despite all the willy-waving and threats, they're mostly just a bunch of snivelling hypocrites who will bottle it at the last minute.

It’s great to see so many new contributors to this ‘thread of reason’.

In France, speaking to people of various nationalities; they all ask about Brexit. There is bewilderment, but also a ‘why can’t the U.K. change its mind?’ feeling. I keep saying I think it may be too late. They ask why.

However, I think timing may be critical here. The A50 court ruling, the EU Summit, the possible failure of the ERG, plenty of public dissent, No Deal becoming more feared, newspapers changing their stance... this cocktail of simultaneous events may bring about something surprising.

Leave-voting MP Nadine Dorries slams May's Brexit deal because UK won’t have seats in European parliament

The Express are claiming Gove will be supporting Norway option:

‘Meanwhile, as the plotting intensifies, Tory sources have said environment secretary Michael Gove, who angered many Brexiteers by not resigning last week, is being lined up as a compromise candidate to support the “Norway option” of Britain leaving the EU but staying under Brussels rule in the EEA single market and customs union.

A Tory MP said: “Gove is the posh Tory candidate, because people like Amber Rudd, Nicky Morgan and Nick Boles need a Leaver to get their mad Norway option through.”’

I haven’t been keeping track of the polls but don’t think I’ve seen labour in the lead for awhile. Might have got that wrong though!

Even The Times can't bring itself to support her unequivocally

'Mrs May would say having done the hard bit, she should enjoy her own sunlit uplands. Voters admire her tenacity, if nothing else. But while the time for change is not now, the nation needs something, or rather someone, truly inspirational to cheer on.'

If there was to be a leadership challenge, can someone remind me what happens? Is it like a standard leadership election where candidates need a certain number of MPs to support them then the wider party membership gets to vote? While I think there are a lot of Tory MPs who would never support one of the ERG as leader, the likes of Bojo and JR-M have quite a lot of grass-roots support (from people like my DM).

Interesting that UKIP is up 2 points on that poll. Some of the hard-right who had switched to Tory must be going back to them. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

Where is that talking rat from 'Horrible Histories' when you need him. He probably understands a lot more than many in the present government.
