Would I be mad to book a holiday in early April?

I am looking at a week's skiing in the easter hols, would involve flying to Geneva around the 7/8 April. Would I be mad to even consider it or is the general consensus that we'd be OK to travel within Europe then?

Any thoughts on Canada for August?

1tisILeClerc · 17/11/2018 09:11

The Government 'technical papers' are the way the UK government want to play these various aspects. The biggest problem being that they are subject to agreement with the EU and if there is no WA and subsequent agreement that is legally binding the UK can say what it wants but it won't happen as the UK's jurisdiction ends part way across the channel.

Penguinsetpandas · 17/11/2018 09:12

I wouldn't book anything for after 29 March unless its refundable or incredibly cheap and you can afford to write off. Can you go before 29 March?

1tisILeClerc · 17/11/2018 09:14

Canada in August should be fine unless someone has declared war.
This is not quite as flippant as it may appear depending on how serious rumours turn out to be, given Mr Trumps diplomatic prowess.

CarolDanvers · 17/11/2018 09:15

@1tisILeClerc Thanks...I think!

This is government no deal for flights paper:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/flights-to-and-from-the-uk-if-theres-no-brexit-deal/flights-to-and-from-the-uk-if-theres-no-brexit-deal

Atm its looking no deal is very possible.

Ds is booked on a school trip to Italy in early April. Bit worried as we’ve blown the family holiday budget on the trip for him.

LittleBookofCalm · 17/11/2018 09:20

Not going to name my source

well I will wait for official guidance

LittleBookofCalm · 17/11/2018 09:20

tbh your source is probably not the Oracle

GoodStuffAnnie · 17/11/2018 09:24

Just go! Would t worry at all.

Penguinsetpandas · 17/11/2018 09:26

Again. Completely fine not being believed by strangers on the Internet quoting out of date articles with vague assurances in over my actual experience!

LittleBookofCalm · 17/11/2018 09:33

your experience?
as a time traveller?

Even the UK prime Minister (Mrs May, this morning) has NO IDEA how things will pan out so predictions by anyone else that 'things will be fine' are complete bolllocks, and only at the point when the legal status of the UK is signed off will anyone have the true answer.
Of course Mrs May HOPES things will go smoothly and the legal niceties are sorted out but she doesn't know if she will be in power at the end of next week.

predictions that things will NOT be fine, Also Bollocks.

Kemer2018 · 17/11/2018 09:41

I may consider aiming towards America or Mexico rather than towards Europe next year

bengalcat · 17/11/2018 09:42

I would just carry on - life goes on doesn't it - however if it all goes tits up which I doubt then at least you were aware of possible hiccups

1tisILeClerc · 17/11/2018 09:46

Littlebook can only be a troll with this failure to understand simple logic.

Would you care to bet your house, life savings, everything, on 'guaranteeing' that there will be no impediment to travel under any circumstances?

CottonSock · 17/11/2018 09:48

I am going to Spain. Not worried at all.

LittleBookofCalm · 17/11/2018 09:57

thinking the same about you 1tisILeClercu and WhirlwindHugs to be honest, get back under your bridges

Peregrina · 17/11/2018 10:03

The article talked about Grayling being confident. Stop right there - Grayling who has overseen disastrous timetable changes on our own railways, and not felt able to do anything about it, is hardly likely to be able to cope with a more sophisticated aviation industry.

Buteo · 17/11/2018 10:16

i am going to the continent in April.
my dd is hoping to go also for several months.
what on earth difference should brexit make??

Well, in the case of No Deal, your DD will be a non-EEA national and may well find she requires a Schengen visa for a stay of more than 90 days.

LittleBookofCalm · 17/11/2018 10:18

no problem

LittleBookofCalm · 17/11/2018 10:20

and you know this how @buteo?

Quietrebel · 17/11/2018 10:26

That's simple logic littlebook.
In case of no deal, the UK will be treated as a non EU country in all aspects. If you are from outside the EU & EEA, right now, you need a visa for a stay of more than 90 days. The reverse would also likely be true for EU non residents coming to the UK after 29 March.
