Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis

October is slowly rolling into November.

Your eyes, rightly, will be distracted by events the other side of the pond.

It won't be good and it won't be pretty and it will have an impact on what happens here in relation to Brexit in one way or another.

May seems to have headed off trouble makers for now. But that means nothing if she can't get a deal through parliament.

And if you think we are in anyway prepared for No Deal I'd like whatever drugs you are taking. That way lies only disorder and to put it bluntly, deaths.

We MUST find a deal, any deal to prevent that. Desperation is the final ingredients in this mess. Who will blink as they realise what's at stake?

The problem is though, is too few MPs have grasped what's at state, such is the quality of our elected representatives. And that's the truly terrifying bit.

If they can't work out the risk of no deal, they certainly not equipped to handle the fall out of no deal.

If you want to shit yourself anymore, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that the minister responsible for hauling all your food and medical supplies in the event if no deal, is Mr Christopher Grayling.

Start praying.

I think the Brexit coin thing is a red rag, designed to get people very worked up rather than focused on important issues like the People’s Vote, or the deal/no deal situation. I was about to e-mail my MP when I realised this is probably what they want us to do.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/10/2018 09:14

Brexit currency? Fools gold.

lonelyplanetmum · 29/10/2018 09:17

I think the Brexit coin ... is a red rag

Well it worked with me.

Is the move, as the press says, intended to appease Brexiteers who have been campaigning for a stamp, bank holiday or coin to acknowledge Britain’s departure from the European Union?

If so, why on Earth do Leavers need appeasing? They won. I would like something huge to appease the now majority of remainers please.

Mistigri · 29/10/2018 09:27

Maybe they'll need something to console them when they get BINO.

Maybe the fact that the government is making ridiculous gestures that will only please stupid people is a sign that they are planning to stiff those very same stupid people.

Just a thought.

Australia’s main banks moving out of London, applying for banking licences in other EU jurisdictions and transfer some employees out of London.

David Ellis, analyst at Morningstar, said the trend could dent the city’s standing as a financial hub: “The risk is that London’s role is diminished over the long term.”

You don't say.

How Hammond does this with a straight face I'll never know. People at work who I respect say very good things about his time as transport secretary. There are a lot of very, very stupid people in this government but Hammond is not one of them.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/10/2018 09:36

Misti I presume Hammond is hanging on until reality strikes,
because in all the possible futures, we will really need one sensible adult in the cabinet to hopefully rally the others,
in particular a competent chancellor who is fully up to date, no time wasted

So
either ready to step if there is a frantic last minute U-turn
or if we Brexit with no deal, ready to apply emergency measures to stop the economy spiralling down out of control

TheElementsSong · 29/10/2018 09:43

I did wonder the same thing. It’s a set of distractions of the level I used to offer my toddlers.

Peregrina · 29/10/2018 09:44

Hammond, Greening - yes, could shape up to be a competent Tory administration.

Mistigri · 29/10/2018 10:00

@ottocrat on Twitter suggests that remainers commit to donating all their Brexit 50ps to the rejoin cause.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/10/2018 10:01

www.politico.eu/article/chancellor-philip-hammonds-deal-or-no-deal-brexit-uk-budget/

When Hammond presents his budget in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon,
he will emphasize that his financial plan rests on securing a deal with Brussels ahead of the U.K.’s exit from the European Union in March 2019.

Without a deal,* his budget* - and the public spending promises that go with it - will be replaced by an emergency rethink.

WorriedMutha · 29/10/2018 10:05

I think it's time to go cashless for me.

prettybird · 29/10/2018 10:05

That will just be spun as Project Fear by the Brexiters. Hmm

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/oct/28/home-office-staff-sit-in-on-council-interviews-with-migrant-families

Home Office workers embedded in local councils are sitting in on interviews with destitute migrant families and gathering personal information
on subjects ranging from health conditions to how their child was conceived 🤔

How to save money: scare off people from accessing help

BigChocFrenzy · 29/10/2018 11:03

Maybe we can think of suitable pictures to put on the 50p coin:

e.g. a lion bending over a barrel in front of a rapacious US eagle

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 29/10/2018 11:21

Not sure if this has already been posted . But I have good news for everyone this morning. We are going to have a new design on the 50p coin. So that’s all right, we can stop worrying about everything now.

It's worth remembering that "shit happens" and the world doesn't exist in a permafrost snowglobe suspended animation, Things move on.

2 years ago, there were good reasons to fear the US. However, of late, it seems they're entering their own situational crisis - they might have bigger fish to fry.

Seems Trumps antics might start to hurt companies like Apple.

www.theregister.co.uk/2018/10/29/apple_might_be_collateral_damage_in_us_and_china_trade_dustup/

Of course this isn't brilliant news for the Liam Foxes of this world.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 29/10/2018 11:22

Sorry old news after all, should have checked Blush

bellinisurge · 29/10/2018 11:25

But @2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney the 50p is a gift that keeps on giving so mention it as much as you like

SusanWalker · 29/10/2018 11:54

I have never voted Tory in my life, but if Justine Greening was leader i would be sorely tempted. Not only does she want a second referendum but I think she really has a vision for creating opportunities for everyone and I think rather than talking the talk like TM on the JAMs she would actually do something.

I know what I'd like to do with the brexit 50p but it would sadly be illegal.

Peregrina · 29/10/2018 12:06

I am the same Susan - never voted Tory and don't intend to start. As a Comprehensive educated person herself from a poor area Greening has much more idea of what it's like for the JAMS than Theresa May. Nor was she prepared to go along with May's grammar school plans. Would she get the vote from the Tory loons in the country though - like the one talked about above who was ranting in the hairdressers?

BigChocFrenzy · 29/10/2018 12:30

The Tory MPs would certainly try to ensure that none of the hardline Brexiters are in the last 2 that members can vote on
They might even pressure the weaker of the remaining 2 candidates to step down, to save time

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 29/10/2018 12:34

Susan, Peregrina. I have also never voted Tory but would probably do so if Greening was leader. In fact, I’d do so in a heartbeat if the choice for PM came down to her or Corbyn.
