Well here we are, almost 9 months on from the referendum & A50 is finally set to be triggered this month.
We've had petitions, marches, tantrums & tears, from the hardcore remainers desperately trying to stop the will of the people, but they can't.

So let's get the champagne out of the cellar ready & waiting - this is the last Brexit Arms thread so let's celebrate!

Oh dear, the desperately strained metaphors are getting more and more facile, and more and more removed from reality. (Like Brexiters, maybe?)

Svetlana33 · 17/03/2017 12:42

Someone upthread said that leaving EU is like stepping into the Unknown. Yes it is. And how we react to it goes to our personality type. Regardless of whether you are In or Out, how you deal with anxiety and the unknown is central to behaviour on MN. Brexiters are also concerned, but they are willing to ride out some years of difficulty because they believe it is important to choose an independent path for our country.

Remainers are shouting for someone to define and explain 'how it's going to be' after Brexit. We had Project Fear from economicsts and journalist before the referendum and were told that all sorts would happen if the vote was for Leave, i.e. immediately something dreadful would occur. We are now being told similar following A50. At what point - in your personal lives - do you galvanise courage and press ahead? If you think that Brexit is the end of your world, then I don't think you have ever dealt with anything truly major in your personal lives.

Always a pleasure to pop into this thread and see the usual suspects pitching up & taking out their little tantrums on the regulars.
There's something reassuring about it - it hardens my resolve somewhat.

Grow up. Treat other people as if they are human beings. Stop talking down to leavers as if they are less than you.

This from Wrong I agree with entirely.

Hope you don't stay away too long Wrong - just ignore the more vociferous teeth gnashers, they're just acting out.

"At what point - in your personal lives - do you galvanise courage and press ahead? "

Usually after I've decided I want to do something and made a plan as to how to make it work.

This strategy generally works very well.

You do not take unknown risks with something of the magnitude of trade, the economy and people lives in the same way you don't leave the gas cooker on overnight for a larf.

The empire is dead. Brexit will end the union. UK imports over 60% of its food. Manufacturing base is small. Companies will want sweetners to stay. In the meantime we have a government dithering.

Successful nations are not built on wishful thinking, nor is life for that matter.

"Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..."

Did someone tell Martin Luther King, Jr. that, Successful nations are not built on wishful thinking

CardinalSin · 17/03/2017 12:55

And look who they've got now...

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/03/2017 12:57

Likening Martin Luther King - a man who fought for equality and justice to the Brexit campaign based on isolationism and xenophobia takes bonkers to a whole new level.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/03/2017 12:58

only a matter of time before a Brexiter declares Farage the British Martin Luther King.

SemiPermanent · 17/03/2017 13:09

...Farage always makes me think of a British Martin Luther King...

Sorry GhostGrimes you are right Martin Luther was replaced by Winston Churchill. So I looked up a new quote.

"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to Nigel Farage." - Winston Churchill Grin

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/03/2017 13:21

Churchill was a great believer in Europe but I'm sure you knew that already.

Bearbehind · 17/03/2017 13:22

Put me down for 'you can't always get what you want' Grin

SemiPermanent · 17/03/2017 13:25

Kept thinking I could never live without EU by my side.

And I grew STRONG!

And I learned how to get along.....🎼🎤

"When the Tories were first trying to take Britain into the European Economic Community in 1962 he (Churchill) was asked by Montgomery on his hospital bed whether it should happen.

His reply was reported as “No!” accompanied by colourful language."

"As Prime Minister in 1953, he was explicit that Britain should not be part of the arrangement. He told the Commons: “Where do we stand? We are not members of the European Defence Community, nor do we intend to be merged in a Federal European system. We feel we have a special relation to both. This can be expressed by prepositions, by the preposition ‘with’ but not ‘of’ – we are with them, but not of them."

So 2 fingers to the EU.

surferjet · 17/03/2017 13:32

Bear will sing a fab version of 'heaven knows I'm miserable now'

Churchill would be the first to realise that in the world today, where an isolated Britain would be dwarfed by five great powers, the United States, Russia, China, Japan and the European Union, Britain's full participation in the European Union is vital, both for Britain and for the rest of the world.
