We've had people staring suspiciously at us and giving us dirty looks for speaking to our dc in another language.

Doesn't bother dh as he's thick skinned, bothers me thoughSad

Mistigri · 17/07/2016 07:48

We have three nationality applications to wade through, which are likely to take many months if not years (because of the need for originals of certain documents, we can't do all of them at once).

What's goady about this thread? It was intended as lightweight - though a bit misjudged considering that there are already real implications for many of us. Others have responded with posts about redundancies, difficulties selling property, and racism, because that's their personal experience.

Can someone explain to me what's goady about that?

LoloKazoloh · 17/07/2016 07:51

I just dropped my toast on the floor!

It wasn't meant to be a goady thread but if someone's intent on being offended, then offended they will be.

I'm genuinely sad for the people who are suffering racial abuse (and I mean genuinely). I'm not responsible for the fact that those sort of people exist.....I didn't give birth to them, I didn't raise them.

Many of the other problems I'm being blamed for on here have been part of normal life for me (and so many others) for years but I don't apportion blame to those around me for voting differently to me in general elections, inflict my woes onto others or embrace self-pity with open arms.

So not meant to be a goady thread at all..... however, it's your choice to make it that if that's what you want.

Misti posting it as "light-hearted" was goady, the responses showing real issues caused by Brexit aren't. The goadyness is the attempt to take the piss out of people suffering (or even just highlighting) consequences.

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 17/07/2016 09:53

My bananas have shrunk! Pre Brexit they were normal size Angry bastards!

...embrace self-pity with open arms.

Yep, goady as fuck.

I'm getting less Euros this year than my last holiday 3 years ago.
In the bright side I'm getting more Euros than I was 5 years ago though.

I thought the initial post was just a misjudged attempt at humour, but the OP's reply tells me that I was wrong and that you were right.

SwearyInn · 17/07/2016 10:32

but I stupidly thought we could have a more light-hearted thread for a change blush

And therein lies exactly why there should have never be a referendum. You are too thick too understand the extremely serious implications of a "Leave".

There is nothing "light-hearted" about leaving the EU. And it's going to be those with the least that suffer in the short term, and almost all of us who suffer in the longer. Boris and Farage will be absolutely fine though. Phew.

SwearyInn · 17/07/2016 10:33

Second Too should be to. Notes irony.

Namehanger · 17/07/2016 10:35

I think the problem is it isn't funny, no doubt one day it will be but for now it is too close to the edge.

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 17/07/2016 10:58

"Embrace self pity with open arms"? "Inflict my woes on others"? Of course you're being goady. Given the genuine replies of people who are losing jobs, trying desperately to stay with their families, being racially abused, your "light-hearted" replies are obscene.

ilovesooty · 17/07/2016 11:04

It isn't funny and I don't think it ever will be.

I doubt my friend whose circumstances I don't want to put on a public forum will ever see it as "lighthearted"

JassyRadlett · 17/07/2016 11:16

You seem a little hard of reading comprehension if you think people are blaming you, individually, for the impacts of Brexit. They are blaming the outcome of the referendum and the political decision to press ahead with Brexit for things that are directly and clearly attributable to Brexit. Do you have some kind of weird persecution complex that makes you feel it's all aimed at you?

Or do you enjoy poking fun at those who might be experiencing tough times? It must be one or the other.

GreenishMe · 17/07/2016 11:48

This thread was not started with any malice towards anyone.

As stated earlier I'm not without problems and they are problems that can never be undone either in or out of the EU...they dominate every single day of my life. I still manage to raise the occasional smile and laugh though.....wouldn't cope otherwise.

There are dozens and dozens of threads on here where people are all outlining the effects Brexit is having on their lives - if I'd posted on one of them that would have been goady, but it was those who are now attacking me that joined my thread not the other way around.

This thread was meant to be light-hearted for both remainers and leavers - and I believe that was very apparent from my opening post.

Admittedly, my later response was less light-hearted because, quite frankly, I find the constant post-mortems that are carried out on every single comment in order to try to justify going on the attack, really really exasperating.

.....and I'm by no means thick. To you who said I am - I'd say it shows a certain level of 'thickness' to think you can know someone you've never met.

Yeah, that's reasonable. It's really only when you start getting your lift by smiling and laughing at the misfortune of others that you start to look like a bit of an insensitive arse.

nearlyteatime101 · 17/07/2016 16:16

Relative half way through a life saving clinical research trial (funded and coordinated by the EU) might not be eligible for next round of treatment when the time comes. Friends and family are so so sad, it's like having a terminal diagnosis over again. We just don't know what will happen now.

nearlyteatime101 · 17/07/2016 16:28

I know it was supposed to be a lighthearted chat, but I am struggling to see how anyone could make light of this dire situation.

ilovesooty · 17/07/2016 16:31

Oh nearly - that's awful.

InShockReally · 17/07/2016 16:47

Oh come on nearly and everyone, be nice! I understood the OP perfectly.

You see, loads of people are fucked already (ha ha ha), more will be soon (snort!) our economy is fucked (hil-arious), there's no plan to fix it (almost wet myself laughing) AND there's been a massive rise of racism and extremist politics sweeping the globe (stop, I can't breathe).

... So I'm with you OP! Something something wonky bananas?

InShockReally · 17/07/2016 16:48

But really that's a horrible situation to be in nearly, I hope they are eligible.
