To be really cross with David Cameron?

I never thought that he should've led either campaign - he should've stayed off the front line and concentrated on being PM. Because he put himself in the firing line he's now stepped down, at the most crucial moment in our country's history for decades, effectively leaving the country rudderless, as well as reeling.

I'm also pissed off with the Labour party for not pulling together and providing effective opposition. They really could've timed their infighting, resignations and vote of no confidence for a better time. I feel that in this country's moment of greatest need our politicians have deserted us and left us without effective leadership.

I think he did the right thing - before the last GE he promised to give a referendum if he won, obviously thinking that he'd be in a coalition at best and wouldn't be able to do so. Politician did what he promised to do - good thing as far as I can see! Also don't blame him for not wanting to deal with the outcome, but perhaps he should have stayed neutral during the referendum campaigns.

It shouldn't be about what he wants or doesn't want to do. Or about playing a blinder. He and Johnson are public servants, not tussling to be captain of the England team.

In fact I take that back. Wayne Rooney gets it more than either of those two do.

I'm not pissed off with him for jumping a sinking ship, I would too in his position

Well you should be pissed off, we all should be. He finagled us into this position, rolled the dice, lost and now wants to just walk away? Nope! At the very least, he gets to start unpicking what needs to be done - which he should have done before he called the referendum - and putting the first steps into action. He currently has that mandate and should do the job he was elected to do.

Now really isn't the time for hissy fitting and running home to cry.

YANBU to be cross with DC for calling the referendum in the first place. Something as complex as EU membership, with all the implications that it has for so many different areas (from the fisheries policy to stability in Northern Ireland) should never have been broken down to a simple in/out; particularly as referenda are so easily skewed by false propaganda (on both sides).
YANBU to be cross with him for the role he played during the referendum and allowing the run-up to turn into the shambolic, chaotic shouting match that it was. As others have said before, he should have been the referee, not a captain.
YABU to expect him to remain, once he'd lost. I would have no confidence in him (or anyone else) to lead a complex series of negoitations that he doesn't believe in. I don't see what else he could do.

I'm cross with him for having referendum in the first place. The general public should never have been allowed to have make this decision.

It was downright obvious, right from the start of the campaign, that he was going resign if Leave won. Boris and Gove got us in this mess, he's hardly going to negotiate their way out of it.

Sometimes, you really need to be careful what you wish for ...

We got Tony Blair after wishing to never have a Tory government again (those of us that recall the 80s). He managed to drag this country - despite a million person march - into a war which we will learn was probably illegal (although no one will notice Chilcott next week). We then thought "no matter how bad, no one could be worse than Blair".

Seems we were wrong.

Floisme · 27/06/2016 14:44

What else could he do? Well he could start by apologising to the whole country for getting us into this fuckbucket in the first place.

Then he could announce a national raffle where the winner gets to put a custard pie in his face on live tv.

That would be a start.

Hi all,

After a great many requests, we're moving the bulk of the referendum threads to the new board here.

Many of you, understandably, want to discuss this subject at length and in detail - this seems a good way to simultaneously keep AIBU and Chat moving for those who don't wish to participate. Of course, the conversations will still appear in Active.
