So what happens in situations like this now. Anyone here work for an HA who would know? Obviously i know the funding wont continue but what many tenants will want to know about is the effect elsewhere. Im suspecting it will also affect the repairs budget and tenants already have to fight to get repairs done.

(sigh). What a stupid stupid stupid mess.

SpringingIntoAction · 30/06/2016 20:54

Springing technically true BUT if we want to negotiate to trade with the EU (which we need to) part of that negotiation will be paying a fee, accepting their red tape, accepting freedom of labour movemen

Lol You still don't get it.

So the Chinese and the Americans and the Japanese all have absolute rights to live in the Uk and we in their countries, because we trade with each other?

No.

Stop this silly thinking that we need free movement to trade with another country.

HA funding has gone

That sums up the economic innumeracy of Remain economics.

I feel very sorry for the Remain side. It was great when they had all that EU-funded pro-EU propaganda to frighten us into staying in the EU. The problem is that the country has called its bluff . The EU really should have had a Plan B for he possibility of Brexit . Oh wait.... the markets have actually negated Project Fear.

Let's try project Smear instead. It is sooooo drearily transpaent

Springing the gaslighting by the Leave voters is what is transparent.

We in the UK could easily pay housing associations ourself using our tax payers money that we no longer have to send to the EU.

But would we? I would not trust the current government to do so, for example. They seem hell bent on taking from the poorest, with the rich being totally unaffected by austerity measures.

I would certainly trust the EU to fund a HA in, say, a traditionally labour voting city like Liverpool, more than I would trust the Tories to do so. (And Liverpool did vote for remain.)

SpringingIntoAction · 30/06/2016 23:18

I would not trust the current government to do so

^^

And that, in a nutshell is the contorted position of the Remain side.

They don't trust Dave - so they agree with Dave that we should stay in the EU.

They don't trust big banks - who are funding the Remain campaign.

Even Corbyn had the sense to be a (captive) Leave voter

Interest rates look like being cut , kinda blows a hole in half of property week's fear-mongering. Borrowing, in fact, will be cheaper.www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jun/30/interest-rate-cut-likely-brexit-bank-of-england-mark-carney

HelenaDove · 30/06/2016 23:22

Springing you should see some of the attitudes to social housing tenants ive seen both in RL and on these boards.

so.........yep i can totally see ppl going for that suggestion Hmm

SanityClause · 30/06/2016 23:23

The Remain voters didn't necessarily vote because they agreed with Dave, Springing. (Although maybe some did.) I think you'll find many took a much longer term view than who would be prime minister for the next few years.

There were many reasons

For home OWNERS because of shoddy workmanship and the problems it causes.

Because it never happens to social housing tenants ...........oh wait!

We in the UK could easily pay housing associations ourself using our tax payers money that we no longer have to send to the EU.

It's funny (or rather it's sad) I've heard exactly the same argument for the EU money covering:

  • the prices rises consequent on tariff charges if we leave the EU zone
  • the EU aid that went to Cornwall, Wales, Tees etc
  • the NHS
  • HAs
  • University funding
  • Charity funding
  • Scientific & medical research

The sum total of rescinded payments to the EU can't possibly cover all that.

Vulnerable people living in social housing will know if they are to be included in benefit cuts later this year.

The new DWP minister, Damian Green, has told MPs there will be an announcement on supported housing in the Autumn.

Lord Freud was brought in by the previous government team to review the issue after heavy lobbying by the housing sector and charities.

Oh! So no news then! Just that the social housing issue will be dealt with after parliament returns after the recess, like much else!
