I am having that sense that politicians will just fuck it all up and it would be nice to quote Prince and look at it say "I do not have a horse in this race".

I normally always vote.

Are you living in Dover with night vision superpowers!

FastWindow · 19/06/2016 23:12

Ah... The non-voting soapbox is a big one for me. And I'm in Berks.

Calais is twinkling tonight Wink

Yes it's Morse code for " Vote Leave" !

Sorry couldn't resist that one. I am shamed by my own shallow opportunism.

Whichever way, I say do vote.

FastWindow · 19/06/2016 23:41

Lol Harry - that makes sense! Calais is sick of policing our border.

ForHarry · 19/06/2016 23:50

Agreed. I don't blame them.

FastWindow · 20/06/2016 00:02

Me either- Calais has become a total dive. I am looking forward to all the Leavers volunteering for shifts at Dover migrant camps. As France will no longer have any reason or responsibility to host/police a Sangatte type area on the 24th-

The Liverpool Uni video is a really clear and dispassionate analysis of so many key issues. Thanks for sharing. Yes, the professor's work relates to EU law, but it's clear that he will be very busy in the event of a leave vote, so no personal gain for his point of view unlike the many other university employees around the UK whose jobs will be at risk.

MuddledMuse you sound like me - it's nice to know you're not alone Smile

I was seriously thinking about abstaining, but after a long & very emotional chat with DH yesterday (different opinions) I think I will vote.

TooMuchMNTime · 20/06/2016 19:19

I'm still struggling
I have to say I have never understood the thing of spoiling a ballot paper, to me it's the same as not voting, it gives the counters more hassle for no reason as well. I hear people say "imagine if everyone did that", what use would that be? The establishment wouldn't change anyway. They'd seize the chance of dictatorship I expect.

Obviously I know men and women died for universal suffrage but I don't think they did that with the intention of compelling anyone to vote!

I have always been firmly Leave and will vote that way. I am voting with my heart and that is for the long term future of the country and future generations.

I know I'm not racist and am proud to explain my vote.

"As France will no longer have any reason or responsibility to host/police a Sangatte type area on the 24th-"

Are you suggesting that France is about to renege on its UN treaty obligations about processing all asylum seeking in France? Because the norm that they should be taken in where first they land (and then distributed onwards if first safe country is overwhelmed) is a UN (not an EU) matter.

MangosteenSoda · 20/06/2016 21:40

It's likely that France will no longer host UK border controls at the northern cross channel ports.

France will process asylum seekers who are seeking asylum in France as they do now. Those that are trying to seek asylum in the UK will have a greater chance of arriving on UK soil and processing their claims in the UK.

The people living in camps in Sangatte are not seeking asylum in France. Currently they are not seeking asylum anywhere because they are being prevented from getting into the UK by our border controls on French soil.
