To regain our sovereignty and self-determination, which means the right to:

  1. Make our own laws to suit our country
  1. Trade freely throughout the world
  1. Control our own borders
  1. Raise our own taxes
  1. Defend our own interests

without the interference of the EU

I have lived in Bruxelles for 26 years. When we purchase a house we pay nearly 20% in taxes/other ie a house of 500,000 you have to find 100,000 to throw away. If we continue in Europe they will surely insist that the UK will follow. Can we afford to stay, I say absolutely not.

Expat777 · 12/05/2016 17:46

When one person dies in the UK, the other automatically gets the house. In Belgium when one person dies here the other has to pay inheritance tax. If you own a house of 400,000 you could have to cough up 100,000 inheritance if your husband or wife dies. Do you think Europe are going to allow the UK to inheriate FOC. I don't. Time to think about whether we want to be governed by non elected representatives that pay no tax whatsoever. All employees that work directly for the European Union pay no tax on their salaries nor other.

Inheriate? Are you even British?

SpringingIntoAction · 12/05/2016 19:07

or those that have had their industries trashed to move them from skilled jobs to min wage's

You do know that the EU funded the move of the Ford Motor Company from Southampton to Turkey with £8million of 'EU' i.e. OUR money?

When I heard that the EU would soon have have control of 'property rights' my heart froze. As it moves towards 'harmonisation across the EU' the impact on the housing market could be severe - especially if we are forced to pay VAT on house sales - something from which we are currently exempt.

Stay or leave, nothing will change. Politicians will still be as corrupt as ever, the rich will get richer and not pay taxes, poor people will still be poor, benefits will still be needed and they will still remain a contentious issue etc. Tbh I think the whole referendum is a red herring to draw attention away from bigger issues such as wide-spread corruption among business leaders and decision makers.

I'm an EU citizen and although I don't get to vote on the referendum, I don't worry about the result which ever way it goes or the impact it will have on my life here in the UK.

You are assuming that France will not cooperate with us about the migrants in Calais. We have an agreement with them for which we pay them a lot of money and that arrangement does not have to change if we leave the EU. They could choose to let them through but there is no reason to assume they will, unless you think they will want to punish us for leaving?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 29/05/2016 21:51

We now have 26 Conservative MEP's, 13 Labour I think the same for LD's and around 10 UKIP and even a BNP MEP

Why as a long life labour supporter would I want this representing our country in the EU (and yes I know why UKIP are supposedly there)

Wasnt sure which thread to post this link on (so I might post it on another one later!) Anyway, basically the author trashes La Garde's claims that Brexit will damage our economy. It's worth a read as the author is far more cogent than I in explaining how and why Brexit will benefit our trade links and economy..
