Foul cold whitelight cast over living room in manner of concentration camp.

And aren't they meant to last for years and years? I am forever replacing the damn things, nearly as often as the old sort. Or is it my wiring that's at fault??

Hadassah · 27/07/2008 15:36

Yes. What is worse is that soon we will not even have a choice. I do not mind paying more - would pay more anyway, presumably, since these eco ones are supposed to be "energy-saving" - but it depresses me that these things are imposed on people, and freedom of choices in restricted.

PinkPussyCat · 27/07/2008 15:36

Yes agree, we have lots.

Loathe them.

moondog · 27/07/2008 15:37

I can't bring meself to buy them despite being an old hippy but they are in this rented apartment. Ican't see that a light bulb will stop global warming mind you.

moondog · 27/07/2008 15:37

I'm stocking up on the bad ones.

PinkPussyCat · 27/07/2008 15:37

And why is there a 2-second delay between flipping the switch and the damn things actually bothering to light up?

i can't abide them, they're so chilly.

are we going to be forced to use them? by whom?

FabioThatFirggingCat · 27/07/2008 15:44

They're shite.
You can see more by the light of a glow worm.

Slubberdegullion · 27/07/2008 15:47

They don't dim too well either. I live in a house full of dimmer switches and the bastards just start flickering like mad if you have them on anything less than full glare.

moondog · 27/07/2008 15:48

Bollocks to em I say. Good lighting essential. In fact amhaving altercation with dh about it right now.

Celery · 27/07/2008 15:48

What's this about soon not having a choice?? They actually depress me, seriously.

girlandboy · 27/07/2008 15:49

There are apparently some special ones that are for using with dimmer switches. The ordinary ones don't work.

Celery · 27/07/2008 15:49

I have them in the rooms I spend very little time in - hall, landing, downstairs loo. Can't bear to have them elsewhere though.

IllegallyBrunette · 27/07/2008 15:50

I have had two shatter in my hand as I tried to remove them after they had blown.

Slubberdegullion · 27/07/2008 15:53

girlandboy, now I did not know that. Dimmer eco's. well I never.

moondog · 27/07/2008 15:53

Yes, they aredepressing.

Slubber - see here

Bit pricey though!

nannyL · 27/07/2008 21:35

I have all energy bulbs

have lived here for 2 years and never replaced any yet

I have all diffrent brands and type

my worst are the phillips ones that were super expensive

my favourite are the tesco Value ones in future i will ONLY use tesco value energy bulbs

they are bright immediatly and give more of a normal light

JamInMyWellies · 27/07/2008 21:46

they are awful we moved to a new house and they are everywhere. I dont bother putting the lights on in the winter I am going to use candles.

maidamess · 27/07/2008 21:47

I was forever replacing mine too. I hate them. Won't give them house room.

Actually I'm hard pressed to think of much eco friendly stuff that actually works.....

noolia · 28/07/2008 11:19

Awful things! I'd be interested to know the actually energy saving on using them as a % of the total used by average home (including extra probs disposing of them).

Slubberdegullion · 28/07/2008 11:21

girlandboy

£13 for a light bulb

I don't think so.

PenelopePitstops · 28/07/2008 11:22

Illegallybrunette i have had some shatter in my hand, they are so dangerous. the old ones never shattered but these ones do so all the time.

does anyone else fid they shatter when you first put them in
?

lljkk · 03/08/2008 13:18

Not had shattering, have had them fail after a short period of use.
They aren't even that eco-friendly, some toxic chemicals in their manufacture.
