That's it really, what do you use to wash your mooncup with?

OP posts:
Habbibu · 04/06/2008 20:36

my hands and some water, mostly. And sometimes some mild soap.

FrannyandZucchini · 04/06/2008 20:38

soap and water

AdamAnt · 04/06/2008 20:44

Very hot water. I don't really use soap (should I?)

FrannyandZucchini · 04/06/2008 20:46

I don't think you are probably meant to use soap
I do because it feels Wrong otherwise
like washing your hands without soap

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 04/06/2008 20:50

Hmm, I've resisted using soap up till now, I don't know why. But just wanted reassurance than I am not a major skank if I don't.

Maybe I will just use hot water while actively using it but soap before I put it away.

Heated · 04/06/2008 20:52

I give it a wash with some antibacterial soap and then sterilise it in the microwave for 5 mins

Hulababy · 04/06/2008 20:55

I don't use soap - I'd be worried about it causing some nasty reaction or insensitivity issues. I just wash with warm/hot water and my hands.

I need to sterilse more often probably though. How do I sterilse in a microwave?

Tatties · 04/06/2008 20:59

Generally just hot water, maybe wash with a bit of soap when I am finished with it for the month. Then sterilise in a pan of boiling water before I put it away (if I remember) but definitely before I use it again.

AdamAnt · 04/06/2008 21:00

Yes, Hulababy that's what I was worried about too. That and blowing soapy bubbles from my foof.

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 04/06/2008 21:05

LOL adamant

Bumper do sterilise it in between cycles
I think other than that hot water is fine

tissy · 04/06/2008 21:09

I've discovered that those tiny interdental brushes (TePe) are great for cleaning the little holes out!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2008 21:19

Heated - how do you do it in the microwave. I do mine in an old saucepan on the cooker and get very if any of the family walk in and see it.

hairtwiddler · 04/06/2008 21:25

Hot water, sometimes a bit of handwash (ecover washing up liquid in my house!). Between cycles, use a baby toothbrush (clearly labelled for that use!) and sterilise using 1/4 milton tablet.

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 04/06/2008 21:27

Oh, yes, I do sterilise it before I use it. Fortunately I still have my LO's steam steriliser.

Ohyoubadkitten, I put the mc in a glass bowl with cold water and in the microwave for 10 minutes, or 5-6 minutes if I happen to have boiled a kettle and have hot water handy & then just leave it to cool.

Good idea re the toothbrush/interdental brush.

nannyL · 04/06/2008 22:37

my hands and running water

then it has a mini tupperware type tub that it sits in with milton for an hour being put bac in the cupboard

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2008 22:41

fab - thanks heated - even I can manage that!

TheWipemeister · 04/06/2008 22:47

Am loving "baby toothbrush (clearly labelled for that use!)" Does it have a wee label with 'Moonbrush' on it - maybe you could market that

I tend to mainly use warmish water and hands, maybe a bit of antibacterial handwash. Hot water and antibacterial handwash before putting it away for the month. Have boiled it up a couple of times, much to DH's wonderment...

LittleBella · 04/06/2008 22:48

Just hot water.

Boil it for five minutes in between cycles.

Once set it alight that way.

hairtwiddler · 05/06/2008 08:51

By the way, the new one on the market is called the 'femmecup'. Not sure if that's any better.

boogiewoogie · 07/06/2008 16:39

Is it sterilised enough if I put it in a glass jar of hot boiled kettle water until it cools or will I need to put it in the microwave for a few more minutes?

WilfSell · 07/06/2008 16:49

rofl at bella 'setting it alight'. You've seen my M o n k e y b i r d's now defunct blog on the art of pan burning, surely?

I invite you to join my esteemed colleagues in the art of Burning Dry...

Anyhoo, please tell me all you skankers use a bit of soap on the old fanjo once in a while? So what's with antisoap on the fannyjammer?

solo · 07/06/2008 16:56

Soap far too harsh for fanjo use, causes thrush for one thing! Aqueous Cream user here...

jamila169 · 07/06/2008 17:01

god no, anything on the old fanjo is a one way ticket to cystitis or thrush hell. BTW at the end of the cycle I give my mooncup a good scrub in hot water, then dishwasher it - that's not scuzzy is it?
