HiLadies,

last month or so I treated nmyelf to a shiny new mooncup ater reading the glowing repots on here....

I got it on ok, but really struggled to get it out again! and felt very odd(queasy?) when i literally had to grit my teeth and yank ....

now, that time is coming up again - what do I do ? anyone got success stories that will nsprire me to try again?

am fed up with tampons - still sore from episiotomy scar even tho' 2 years ago and end of period is a nightmare - have even gone back to using pads which i hate. would a mooncup be more comy do you think?

dcb · 20/06/2008 12:53

sorry - should say "comfy"...

dylsmum1998 · 21/06/2008 18:41

i didnt have an episiotomy with mine so i couldnt truefully answer.
bump n the hope someone knows for you

girlandboy · 21/06/2008 18:57

dylsmum - did you get the pads from Lunawolf?

dcb - sorry, I didn't have an episiotomy either, but if I were you I would go into Boots and have a look at one before you buy. I have no problem inserting one, but it has taken quite some practise to remove it. The circumference on removal is larger than insertion, and unless you get into the knack of tilting it to one side you might find it uncomfortable. It does rather stretch you, iyswim. Hope this is not tmi.

I have problems inserting it. I fold it into that U-shape but the cup keeps unfolding before I can insert it in far enough. So I end up using some force and grazing myself . But I am only on the first month.

Does anyone have tips for me? Where do you hold the mooncup on insertion. At the top - to make the U-shape as small as possible for easy insertion, but then I find I cannot push the rest in and it unfolds. Or hold at the bottom, but then the U-shape unfolds more and it is difficult, particularly when I am tensing or dryer (I need to work on that).

girlandboy · 21/06/2008 19:27

blueshoes - I do the punchdown fold which makes the mooncup smaller to insert and seems to stay in postition long enough to insert it.
When I do the same fold as you, then I have to be very speedy in getting it in else it springs open, the other method gives you more time.

blueshoes · 21/06/2008 19:42

Thanks, girlandboy, sounds like the solution. What is the punchdown fold?

dylsmum1998 · 21/06/2008 22:24

girlandboy yes i did. i'm quite looking forward to having a period to try them out now- dont think i've ever wanted to before
would be interested in what the punchfold is- i have probs with mine unfolding too

hairtwiddler · 21/06/2008 22:28

My DD watched me take mine out recently, and proclaimed, "POP!"

In answer to original post - agree with others, make sure to bear down and break the seal. I kind of turn mine sideways a little then remove it so that the cup is still pointing upwards.
I'd never go back - they're great.

girlandboy · 22/06/2008 13:07

sorry for delay - probs with laptop.
The punchdown method is described as the 2nd method in the leaflet. If I can describe it! Push one side down to the base and it will kind of fold in on itself.

"Just found this"

Hope this link works

girlandboy · 22/06/2008 13:10

Nope- just tried it - it doesn't! Try googling the words Mooncup punchdown and look at the images.

blueshoes · 22/06/2008 14:22

Thanks girlandboy - behold the 'C' fold, 'punchdown' fold, '7' fold and 'origami' fold: here

girlandboy · 22/06/2008 16:21

Thanks blueshoes - hope you get on better now with your mooncup. It's worth persevering. You may also find it easier to insert if the mooncup is wet; I do.

dylsmum1998 · 29/06/2008 09:15

ahem a tmi post- so stop reading if your eating or easily offended/ slightly squemish.

i'm just starting month 2 of using my mooncup, though i'd try a diff fold and see how i get on. i usually use the c-fold. i tried the punch down. inserted much easier than with c fold. so much so it seemed to go higher! is that right have i worn mne too low last month. was a bit worried so i "fished" it back out and used the c fold.

girlandboy · 29/06/2008 13:56

Hi dylsmum - I purposely insert my mooncup higher than it says in the instructions. If it's lower then I have trouble urinating. It seems to squash my pipework iyswim! I panicked the first time it was in further, but if I bear down, then it comes within reach and out it comes. I actually think that sometimes it seems to get "drawn in" further by my muscles, because I'm sure that I wouldn't have been able to push it in that far. However, 2 or 3 "pushes" and I can get it out.
If you find in comfy when it is pushed in low, then stick with that.

dylsmum1998 · 29/06/2008 15:34

maybe i'll leave it a little higher then, it feels like it moves a little when urinating. was worried i might loose it and not be able to reach if it when any higher like it went this morning

dcb
a bit of a late reply here. I had an episiotomy 10 months ago. I found tampons sore to remove but have used a mooncup for the last 2 months and found it more comfy. i think it's mostly cz it doesn't dry you out like a tampon does so easier to remove without hurting iyswim . obviously i can't say the same for you but it might be worth a try. i would say the first few times i used it it did hurt taking it out until i got a bit better at it so it might be worth perservering! good luck
