HiLadies,

last month or so I treated nmyelf to a shiny new mooncup ater reading the glowing repots on here....

I got it on ok, but really struggled to get it out again! and felt very odd(queasy?) when i literally had to grit my teeth and yank ....

now, that time is coming up again - what do I do ? anyone got success stories that will nsprire me to try again?

You need to slide one finger up the side of the mooncup and break the sort of vacuum seal that it has holding it in at the top. You'll get a kind of schlurpy feel and then it should come out easily. If you're having to yank then you probably haven't broken the seal well enough.

I bought a mooncup last month after reading lots of positive things about them. I was adamant that I would never use one but now I'm a convert!

Do as PAL said, I find that if you push with your muscles then it slides out then you need to angle it with your finder to one side before doing the same the other way to avoid spillage and for the least amount of discomfort.

melpomene · 11/05/2008 09:50

In the early days I found it easier to take out the mooncup if I was squatting down (as well as pushing with muscles). Good luck!

BBBee · 11/05/2008 10:04

this is a right of passage that most of us went through with our mooncups - if you search threads there are loads of removal tips.

Hurrah!

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2008 10:06

bear down hard until it is at the bottom of your vagina (if it wasn't already)
grip base and squeeze hard until suction is released (cue schlurp)
pull out gingerly avoiding resuction on way out (keep squeezing)

BBBee · 11/05/2008 12:39

(N.B. just for mooncup though fra - not babies)

Tatties · 11/05/2008 13:03

Yes do what Franny says

Also it should get better as time goes on - the more you fold it and boil it every month the more flexible and easier to use it will become

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2008 13:04

are you sure Bee
sounds depressingly like how ds was born tbh

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 13:06

mine never schlurps. i bear down and break the seal and it just comes clean away. but franny and i have discussed once or twice the fact that our respective foofs are v different.

BabiesEverywhere · 11/05/2008 13:07

The offical mooncup site recommends that you give the mooncup 3 months trial to get use to it and I agree. I hated the first few months of trying to grips with my mooncup but then I suddenly got the nack of removing the mooncup properly with no drips etc...and now I love it and would never go back to tampons.

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2008 13:13

thank heavens for the wonderful rainbow variety of foofs

aitch I wish mine schlurped a bit less
it gets stuck sometimes and I am too hasty trying to take it out

WilfSell · 11/05/2008 13:15

i am still too nervous to try one, though like the idea. have too many bouts of cystitis, related to my weird plumbing...

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 13:26

it might be make or break for you, admittedly. although thinking about it, i've had no cystics since using one, but didn't suffer that badly in teh first place. you know they'll give you your money back if you try it and hate it?

WilfSell · 11/05/2008 13:44

wonder what they do with the returned ones...?

Might give it a go but stock up on ABs first...

BBBee · 11/05/2008 19:18

mine slurps a bit.

Please perserve - once it starts working you can't believe that you ever thought tampons/towels were okay. After about four months I was confident enough to wear it on a plane trip with two dcs - never thoguht twice.

Please persist.

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 20:39

so true. after a while the idea of stuffing something absorbent up there just seems weird...

wohmum · 11/05/2008 22:25

ok, making progress...

I used it last night and it came out eventually , but was still a bit long winded!

I found it really hard to reach up to break the seal but then remembered to bear down and it helped. still took ages tho'

didn't try it today as I knew we were out and not sure what the loos would be like!

what do you do when you use public loos and the sink is outside the cubicle?

I'm not sure i can imagine using it for the whole period tho' - do you use it even the last day or so when not much there ?

OP posts:
AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 22:27

some people take a bottle of water into the loo, but i just give it a wipe with loo roll and sling it back up there. and no, i don't use it on the last day, i use a pantyliner.

IdentityFraud · 11/05/2008 22:29

Mine HURTS to get out - yes I DO break the seal. Am 40 with two small boys. Should I try the smaller cup for sweet young things with no kids?

PenelopePitstops · 11/05/2008 22:29

do they work if you have evtremely short fingers?

I want one, but am worried about this!

IdentityFraud · 11/05/2008 22:31

I don't think short fingers will make a big difference PP - there is a handy-grabby-pully bit!

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 22:32

i have short fingers but still cut off the stem. of course when i bear down the thing practically shoots out of my post-partum fanny anyway...

AitchTwoCiao · 11/05/2008 22:32

identity, maybe you should let your pelvic floor exercises slide a little?

IdentityFraud · 11/05/2008 22:38

I'll take that as a compliment, Aitch but I think they slid a loooooooong time ago.

RedFraggle · 12/05/2008 13:31

I don't reach up to break the seal. I just grab the end and sort of gently squeeze while twisting slightly.
Mine does slurp I have to loiter in the loo at work if there is someone in the next cubicle as I dread to think what they would think was happening.

I love my mooncup, the first two months I was unconvinced and actually took a break from it for the next month, but then I hate all the waste of tampons and towels etc so I had another bash and now love it. I've even persuaded a friend to buy one due to my evangelical ramblings....

I use mine all the way through too, towels always make me feel a bit dirty, and tampons when I'm really light are just horrid and scratchy.
