can u sew?

make recycled nappies?

maidamess · 11/04/2008 08:37

I use old towels for nights when the children have the pukes...keep in the car to line the boot when wellies are muddy...give to a dogs home, I bet they'd use them for when they've had to bath a dog? use them as beach towels?

Tutter · 11/04/2008 08:38

no

er, no - but would happily give them to someone who would

cut up and hem and use instead of flannels/baby wipes?

Tutter · 11/04/2008 08:38

we have so many towels, maidamess

kept the really old ones when we bought new last time

have to lose some at some point

Yes, dog rescue centres are always in need of old towels

Tutter · 11/04/2008 08:39

ok, i should give you some idea of scale

i have maybe 30 or 40 towels

that's a lot of flannels

Tutter · 11/04/2008 08:39

ah, winestein, good idea

I chop them up and keep them in my cleaning cupboard for wiping floors and dusting etc.

misdee · 11/04/2008 08:40

send me a box of them to attempt to make nappies for #4

maidamess · 11/04/2008 08:40

Cloth recycling centre.

Anna8888 · 11/04/2008 08:41

Put them in the recycling bin.

Tutter · 11/04/2008 08:41

if you lived locally i absolutely would misdee

but postage to you (aren't you essex or thereabouts?) [stalker] would be more than towels worth

and would def negate any green aspect of keeping them

30 - 40

Start a flannel factory?

(Maidamess got there before me btw - it was just hidden in all her other rubbish ideas )

lilymolly · 11/04/2008 08:44

i use towels all the time for my dogs, so agree, dogs home or vets or rescue place would be your best bet.

Furball · 11/04/2008 09:03

there was a thread a while ago saying that no-one actually throws towels away, they just get demoted down the line eventually ending up in either the garage for oily hands or for wiping the dogs paws - twas quite amusing, I'll see if I can find it.

cmotdibbler · 11/04/2008 09:17

Freecycle them if they are good enough for human use,or even if not. Ours has requests for old towels reasonably frequently.

FAQ · 11/04/2008 09:19

tutter - if it makes you feel any better I also have a LOT of towels (not counted, but probably the same number as you, if not more) most of which never get used

vonsudenfed · 11/04/2008 09:28

Definitely the local animal rescue centre - ours (v local charity) is always desperate for them for both bedding and washing dogs with!

AbbeyA · 11/04/2008 09:34

I chop them up and use them for cleaning jobs.

alibubbles · 11/04/2008 09:41

The local animal rescue centre would love to have them, I am sure there are a few near you.

alibubbles · 11/04/2008 09:41

oops, should have read the whole thread and not just the title

Tutter · 11/04/2008 11:52

there is indeed an animal rescue centre a couple of miles who would liek them

thanks all

freecycle !

flack · 12/04/2008 18:51

I got a bunch from freecycle which we now use as night nappies for my nearly 4yo, and as swimming bath and beach towels, also as a towel to change baby's nappy on. They are better than some of our ordinary towels .
