I have seen some useless pointless shite on the White Co website in my time but this really takes the prize

this has tipped me over the edge. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Whilst I can't deny liking nice things I have become increasingly fed up with it all and I feel I have had it with all this farking aspirational-have-a-perfect-(off-the-shelf)-house-and-you-will-have-a-perfect-life shite. I rang them up and asked them to stop delivering their poisonous catalogue to me. (in my defence, I have no memory of asking them to deliver it in the first place). and I didn;t actually call it poisonous. And I did John Lewis too.

I feel a bit conflicted. I know I'll never totally stop caring about fashion, design, and the like but god I wish I could. And I'm resolved to try. harder.

Should I namechange before admitting I have the MB one? Yes, I think I should have done...

(It was a present)

and I really agree with that the grand design predilection for things green has a certain (farking obvious) irony to it.

It's the fall of the Roman Empire all over again. People are spending their money on this while the icebergs are melting.

People who buy that £75 thing are the same people that buy stuff from that horrendous shop featured in the bedroom furniture competition.

MrsMattie · 14/03/2008 22:04

Fuck all that 'lifestyle' tat. I shit on Ikea, and I piss on ponce-a-rama shops like The White Company. Houses are for living in. Um, that's it really...

fishie · 14/03/2008 22:12

marmadukescarlet wow, do you use it? please please do get a profile so that we can judge you a lot.

marmadukescarlet · 15/03/2008 16:12

fishie yes I do use it in my downstairs loo. Feel free to judge, I am the epitome of all things derided by Mumsnet although I do not read the DM - one has to draw the line somewhere. (A poster on this thread has met me in RL, she can tell you I'm a ponce)

My DH 'bought' it for me with Amex points, he has megamillions of these useless things from his company credit card. So without fail, every Christmas I get a selections of crap gifts from the Amex Gifts mag.

I have now cottoned on to this - having been really impressed the first year when he got me a Mulberry handbag - and I now mark it up with what I would like (Bodum griddle pan this year, much more use).

And for all those who are laughing, it is crap. I had to take it back twice to get one that wasn't warped.
