What deodorant/ antiperspirant would you recommend that is eco friendly, organic, few packaging, nice smelling, effective etc?

Just wanted to know whether anyone's ever found those crystal rock things effective.

I'm running out soon and would like to use some which satisfies the above criteria.

Thanks

Crystals/pitrok only stop the smell, don't stop the damp patches under the arms.

I am still researching, because I am allergic to aluminium. Bionsen works...for a while. Tom's of Maine doesn't. The new M&S ones don't work.

Trust works brilliantly but I'm a bit about how ...I think it just clogs up your pores.

Pleased to see this thread and will try Kiss my Face and Dr H, thanks!

Please report back on any which do combat sweaty pits. I didnt know that you could get any natural type ones which did. I thought smell free was the best I could hope for.

The lush ones are good for scent, but I didn't rate them for stopping the sweat smell - good for masking though.

Some people use lemon juice, or bicarb rubbed on. I have one from the health shop that is made from oats - quite good and woody smelling (quite masculine actually). Also have one that is hemp and lavendar roll on and has mineral salts in it.

I didn't get on with the alum crystal - it worked for a few weeks then I woudl start to smell. Although I know it works for some people.

The secret above all though is to wash every day. None of the above are any use for existing niffs, just new stuff.

I didn't know there were any that stopped perspiration either. But having said that, the point of sweating is to remove toxins - so stpping your body doing that is not good. It will only come out elsewhere (e.g. skin/groin, feet etc)

I did find plain old bicarb, or the powdery type ones from lush were quite good at soaking up sweat

I use the Pit Rok, but the spray. I did have the crystal but it got dropped on the floor (some dch was borrowing it!) and smashed, so now I use the same thing in a spray, from Boots. I find it very effective: you have to sparay it on wet skin, so straight from the shower, but I find that by the time I've cleaned my teeth (with elbows up in the air!) my armpit are dry. So, no prob. I like it, it smells fresh but not overpowering, and it's got no horrible aluminium smell.

I used the pitrock and liked it but as a teacher I couldn't cope with sweat patches on clothes during class (even in winter!).
The green people one works really well and I have been using it for ages now with no irritation, even after shaving and even with eczema-y skin.

I use this crystal rock. It works really well, no smell at all, although it isn't an anti-perspirant. However I have found that I tend to sweat less since I've stopped using mainstream deodorants. It also comes in a dutty little bag with no other packaging.
On the same theme I've also started using paraben-free products called Naked which I really like.

MissGelly · 20/03/2008 16:00

I was using a crystal but really didnt notice it working - and it never seemed to get smaller! Maybe I was using it wrong. I got on better with the crystal spray. Thanks for the pitrok spray recommendation; I'll be sure to get some.

Ive never found the crysal any good, but then found the spray one from Bionsen that you can refill with water 5 or so times, and thats good.
Otherwise the Lavera co is good...

BrummieOnTheRun · 25/04/2008 09:55

I found the crystal works best if you apply it first immediately after showering - both your skin and the crystal need to be wet - and then repeat once it's dried.

pitrok spray is more convenient, and works on feet too!

Water is pretty good for me.

Because of how my workday is structured, I wash 3x daily - splash under the arms in the morning, shower at work, shower when I get home in the evening.

I've stopped using deodorant and anti-perspirant. Don't seem to need it anymore.

surprise · 29/04/2008 22:26

I've only tried Bionsen, which was rubbish imo. Am trying the crystal rock one at the moment, which seems fine for an average day, but not good if I'm doing strenuous exercise. So I content myself with using the crystal 4 or 5 days a week and a regular deo/anti-perspirant for the other days.

MummyToOneForNow · 29/04/2008 22:39

I've been using the Pitrok crystal for about 8 months and have had no problems with odour. Doesn't stop sweating but I do think I sweat slightly less than I did before (although haven't used through a summer yet!).

I do sometimes wonder if regular use of anti-perspirants or deodorants makes you more prone to sweating/smelling - what was available 50 or 100 years ago other than washing regularly and did people smell more or are deo's/anti-p's a solution to a problem that didn't really exist? A friend has never used deodorant and has never had a problem with odour.
