Just wanted to know whether anyone's ever found those crystal rock things effective.

I'm running out soon and would like to use some which satisfies the above criteria.

Thanks

try aloe vera or scent free

Bit sticky - needs few mins to dry - but once skin gets used to it (might sweat a bit at first due to irritation from previous products, I found) it is really nice on the skin and works well.

mylovelymonster · 29/02/2008 07:58

forgot to say - you can get this at some supermarkets - dare I mention Waitrose?, or Sainsbury's

FrannyandZooey · 29/02/2008 08:13

I didn't find the crystal ones effective but I know others who have

the one I currently use is reasonably non-chemically, but don't know how fab on other terms - it is called Bionsen

I have tried most others and found them ineffective - the Urtekram one was not bad but I find it hard to get hold of. Weleda very ethical but you might as well have sprayed fresh air on there IME

weleda do a couple these days. got one in waitrose [classy bird, me]

i was a vegetarian for 2 yrs as a teen. my sweat smell sweet. im tellin ya, it was actually sweet ans pleasant. the lure of chicken and bacon got too much in the end tho, and now i sweat normally again.

theres some on here too.

orangina · 29/02/2008 08:29

Have never done the crystal ones, but do love the roll on deos by Dr Haushka... available in fresh and floral fragrances, no aluminium, they work (always helpful!), but aren't cheap at about £8 a pop..........

RomySchneider · 29/02/2008 08:57

It may sound weird but I tried out baking powder as I didn't want to use any deodorant containing aluminium and the ones that don't (like the crystal) don't work on me at all (sweat very strongly).
Ever since using baking powder there is no smell at all, works a treat for me.
Of course not glamourous...

WowOoo · 29/02/2008 09:11

I found Weleda quite effective, but ususally use that Bionsen stuff or the crystal rock.

friendlyedjit · 29/02/2008 09:29

have tried the lush one with patchoulli- ?aromoca which is a little strange as i have to break small piece off and rub into pits- doesn't seem to irritate and once this lot finished I'll probably try one of the others for pig iron. Seem to stay quite fresh and sweet in the main! but does take a tad more effort than roll on! and mean to keep in bedroom otherwise dries out...
the other trick have heard of, is after washing using half a lemon to wipe in armpits??? haven't tried but its natural shape would lend to this so....

mylovelymonster · 29/02/2008 09:31

Romy - baking powder is supposed to be great for getting rid of odours, now I think of it. Think you're really onto something there!

I'd second that your body gets used to using the stronger deodorants so takes a good while to get used to something less strong/nothing at all, but amazing that it just does.

My favourite is one that you can't get in the UK as far as I'm aware, only in the US. It's called Kiss my face (stupid name I know) and is the only eco deodorant that actually works for me.

I dampen it and apply to clean pits after shower

duchesse · 29/02/2008 09:43

boysontoast I found when I was veggie my sweat didn't smell

I shave every day, and I am convinced that maked a big difference.

Yay!! For amazon doing Kiss My face!!

duchesse · 29/02/2008 10:01

I think it's some part of protein digestion that makes sweat smelly, no?

I find I get v smelly from coffee- have done for about 7 years.

Indith · 29/02/2008 10:18

Aromacream from Lush is fantastic but it has a lot of essential oils in it and I find it irritates after a while. Never smell with it though.

I currently alternate every couple of days between a Japanese sea mineral type one and an essential oil type one as for some reason they work for a couple of days then stop Am tempted by PitRok.

boogiewoogie · 29/02/2008 21:34

Didn't expect to get this many responses but thanks everyone, shall now have a browse with the links...

I find PitRok spray (there is a scented one & unscented)good for keeping odours in check if applied to freshly washed pits. Used to use a bio-crystal one (not PitRok)but found it stopped working after a while and was also a pfaff. None of them keep sweat at bay so tops do get sweaty so have to go in the wash sooner as warmed up sweat on clothes stinks more than fresh sweat. I also tried the Biosen spray & roll-on and neither lasted. I tried another natural spray from the health food shop which was something like witch hazel & coriander which smelt nice but didnt keep me smelling good for a whole day like the Pitrok. Various natural/ethical products sites sell it but I found it in my local health food shop. The website says Superdrug & many supermarkets also do it.

Pitrok here. Lasts for ages and effective on me. You could always give it a try. Waitrose sell it
