Please can we have a 'chicken owners' topic (or Good Life or something)

There are quite a few of us on here, and I KEEP MISSING THE CHICKEN THREADS! You could call it The Good Life or something, and include allotments/veggie growing etc. It would make it much easier to find the chicken threads which atm are all over the site!

Well, think Chicken-Owners may be a little niche to be a topic. Could you all decide to post in: - pets, gardening or ethical living?

tortoiseSHELL · 18/02/2008 11:08

The thing is, it's all of those things really...

...and there are quite a lot of us - could it be a subset of one of those topics? Like in education - the G&T topic is quite 'niche' like...

There ARE loads of us tortoiseshell. Not sure about the Good Life though after chasing the cock round the back. Bugger kept crowing at me and woke the baby. Bad Anxiety Inducing Life more like.
And it is not gardening either...or pets.
What about fur and feather? (we can ignore the fur lot)

lol - I spent an evening when I WANTED to be watching a prom concert on BBC2 standing in torrential rain in the garden, trying to get the b*** chickens back into their house. Took me the WHOLE of the concert (over an hour and a half!). Am better at it now!!!

There is a "Help - egg incubating' thread going in other subjects just now.

jeremyspants · 18/02/2008 19:37

Mwhahaha. Just had an evil thought that would ruffle feathers.

Think its a great idea. Bump!

You could also try the ebay community boards.

There use to be avid discussions about selling live eggs on ebay, and using stolen photos of livestock to show what the hatchling would look like. Quite scandalous considering a picture would be the only breed information you have if you buy eggs on ebay. You need to know the line, or heritage of eggs you buy, not?

We have seven bantam Scots Grey cocks all a- crowing just now (lucky there are no neighbours) plus six other types. It is starting to drive me nuts, especially with the brighter mornings but I cannot kill them.
Any idea how much to sell them for ?
I have found that 'free to a good home' yields no interest and they are pure bred.
this is what they look like

im waiting on my eglu and 6 starter chooks too.

we could have a subsection of gardening, int he good life bit maybe, for fruit and veg growing/allotment running.

hey! i live in the sticks, i gotta take my thrills where i can find em

Oh yes please....

BoysOnToast · 05/03/2008 09:19

gentle otter, (were you otherwise otterly named before?)

would the bantam cocks be ok to live with miss pepperpots and gingernut rangers (6 hens)??

theyre not here yet, but i could take them off your hands when they get here beginning of april... if it would work.

BoysOnToast · 05/03/2008 09:21

sad isnt it doodle?

am getting the cube - yay! tho tbh, ive been thinking the last few days that i may already have grown out of it, and for the same cost i could get and modify a big shed... but am unsure of what/how/ etc.. [uncertain emoticon]

ooh, woudl you??

the whole wood mites/cleaning palaver is whats put me off having chickens thus far... and the eglu was too small.... so when i spotted the cube i was chuffed to bits. and yes, i plan to pressure wash from a distance too!

BoysOnToast · 05/03/2008 09:34

ahhh, ok. well thats good info to bear in mind...

have to confess the no-hassle element of the eglu/cube is mighty attractive to me! but if i do outgrow it i may be inclined to convert a big plastic shed...

frankly right now, i couldnt be arsed!

resale values on ebay for omlet stuff seem really good, so not worried.

my chooks live in a very large version of
this
As long as you slosh a bit of jeyes fluid around once every couple of months you don't have any problems with mites. IME only sickly hens succumb to red mites and we haven't had any for about 3 years.

ingles2 · 05/03/2008 10:00

and the good thing abut a coop like this, is that you can go away for the weekend and they can be shut in for a couple of days.
