depends on your local council. ours takes plastic milk cartons without lids, plastic juice bottles etc and butter/margarine tubs.
that's all I can remember off the top of my head, but it doesn't do ALL plastics. oh, and not plastic bags- but most supermarkets will recycle them.
best to get some reusable bags though, then you don't have to worry

Our council only takes plastic bottles- milk, juice, fabric conditioner, shampoo, w/u liquid, etc. margarine, yoghurt, plastic sheeting, bags, polystyrene etc aren't allowed.

Ditto about not getting the plastic bags in the first place. I've got loads of long handled fabric bags from here

We have to take off lids to recycle and have to take to local tip.
Maybe you could do glass and tins too, they are easier to work out.

We do, plastics, glass, paper, tin and have a composter too we have one black bag a week in rubbish, thats it.

Also i keep a plastic bag by the front door, to put all junk mail and envelopes in as soon as they come in.

Tesco and asda recycle plastic bags, but have reusuables, which are better and make bringing in my shopping alot quicker.
Good luck

pyjamagirl - it seems to vary wildly from council to council as to which plastics they'll recycle - ours will only do plastic bottles, nothing else. Maybe have a look at their website, see if they have a list?

Look at your council's website. It should tell you what they will pick up kerbside, and what you have to take to a recycling centre.

Re plastic - containers have a small triangle with a number inside, which denotes the type of plastic the item is made from. Our council, for example, will only collect types 1 and 2. And no plastic bags at kerbside, although you can take them to the tecycling place yourself.
