Only buying clothes from charity shops or second hand this year. Anyone else?

I dont have a lot of money, but I do love Primark and other cheap clothes shops as well as charity shops.This year, however I have set a resolution to only buy clothes secondhand. Anybody else follow this rule?

Yes, am doing the same. Just bought DH ‘new’ shirt from eBay. Barely worn, looks new. £1,80 plus postage should’ve been £40 new!

I was thinking of doing this. I don't buy an awful lot but I think I could still do with cutting down on buying "fast fashion"

I volunteer in a charity shop once a week and we get so many lovely things in. The whole "fast fashion" thing depresses me.

I pretty much do already, underwear, footwear and (some) sports kit aside. Gonna try and stick to it this year.

Interested in doing this too. So far I've only bought two vintage handbags. But choosing those was based on the fact that I have boots and shoes already that will look good with them, so this is a good start for me!
I'm also culling my wardrobe to donate a load of things that no longer suit me or don't fit.

I definitely intend to cut down a lot, but I am struggling with the idea of buying secondhand jeans, just because I find jeans shopping so utterly miserable the thought of making it harder fills me with fear! Anyone got any tips for that?

me too. We don't actually need many clothes anyway. People have far too much.

Not really a tip but I struggle finding jeans to fit and seldom wear them as a result, but I've found some truly fab pairs in charity shops. I basically do this already OP so I'm in :)

I'd love to do this. Our local charity shops are woeful though. How do you buy things that suit your shape on ebay? Any tips?

I only really do anyway. I have never had more amazing clothes since I started doing this.

Last week I got some Hobbs black sling backs that are on the website still for £169. They cost me £6.95.

Flatter re. jeans, are there any vintage shops you can go to (rather than charity shops)? They often have rails of lovely used Levi's and the like. There's bound to be something to suit given the way denim styles change over the years. A pair of 501s from last week won't have the same fit as a 90s pair and so on.

I've been buying my clothes from charity shops for years, I've had some real bargains, I bought a lovely Joules top last week. I hardly ever buy anything new.

Very very rarely but new apart from underwear!! Or utter bargain tunics from the likes of White Stuff which I will wear loads for work.

I get gutted when stuff literally gets worn out after a decade or so Sad

Me too Random I'm lucky because my dm has hoarded lovely clothes from the 60s onwards, they don't fit her any more, she hardly wore them any way.

I have bought mainly organic cotton clothes since the 90s and they are still ok with some stitching! I wear them as layers.

Because I lost a fair amount of weight I have altered my bras . Also took a nice track suit to be altered to fit me.

I have bought couple of pairs of GAP jeans in Charity shops too. You have to look carefully (even in the unattractive shops) , it's amazing what you can find

I'm in! I mostly buy second hand for myself anyway - other than underwear, PJs and shoes. I am sometimes tempted by new lovely things for DS(2) and baby DD though; I'll have to be stricter about that.

missy No real skill involved!! I do wear very basic cotton\mix M&S ones (no wires or anything!) I just take a couple of centimetres off both sides , under the arms.

I fold and sew, no cutting, it only alters the back where I lost most weight (luckily the cups are not a lot smaller) Grin

I know what you mean about baby clothes! There needs to be specific baby\child wear charity clothes shops. Because most children\babies grow out of their 'best' stuff sooo quickly.

I pretty much do this already. Can I also recommend clothes swapping events? I've had some fantastic stuff from them, and generally just pay a fiver to get in.
