anyone know which brands of kids' trainers are ethical?

just that really. I hear that the usual suspects - cica etc - are actually rubbish. But they need to be proper trainers, not hemp and cardboard espadrilles.

but Shock at putting moles to work in sweatshops. they are essentially solitary creatures who suffer great stress in crowded conditions, and besides, they haven't got opposable thumbs.

Hmm yes. What about naked mole rats instead? They're social -- the lack of opposable thumbs might still be a problem but on the other hand they do have "mole" in their name. Which is, I think we can all agree, the important thing here.
