Oh, that sounds great. I don't use fabric conditioner as it has animals in it. Gonna try this though Smile

expatinscotland · 16/05/2006 09:29

I don't use fabric conditioner, either, monkey, as I just think it's yucky and wasteful and damages the fibres in the cloth.

DD1 also has sensitive skin.

But this is pretty effective.

I use lavender oil + vingegar for clothes and tea tree for nappies, towels and bedding.

Thanks Expat, you are a wealth of information Smile Where is the Chinese market? Just curious really as I used to live in Ed but I didn't know there was a Chinese market!

Papillon · 16/05/2006 13:15

pretty eco please

Freckle · 16/05/2006 13:37

Doesn't vinegar make your clothes smell like fish and chips?

MissChief · 16/05/2006 13:38

melrose · 16/05/2006 13:43

Tried to use Ecover washing liquid but does not seem to work on any clothes! All came out still stained, anyone recommend any alternatives?

Cappucino · 16/05/2006 13:43

wow! has this started!

I suggested this too!

no freckle, distilled vinegar, not malt vinegar, doesn't make your clothes smell of chips

sheesh Grin

I've tried the Ecoballs for washing, but colours do tend to fade and whites become dull with prolonged use.

Bozza · 16/05/2006 13:59

So where is a good source of distilled vinegar - cheap and in large quantities? And available in Yorkshire.

Bozza · 16/05/2006 14:58

Found some on Asda online it is "distilled malt vinegar". 47p for 568 ml. Would this do?

expatinscotland · 16/05/2006 20:45

Kim and Aggie use the white Sarson's stuff. I saw the actual bottle on one of their shows.

It's what I've been using and it's fine.

Try a Chinese market for larger sized jugs of it.

I buy a 5L one for £3.99 in a Chinese market about a 10 min. walk from our home.

I use essential oils to get rid of the smell.

You can use the jug for all sorts of things afterwards, too - water plants, camping (GREAT water carrier), to wash the car, etc.

Rhubarb · 16/05/2006 20:47

I've gotta ask, why was carla's message deleted? I've been thinking of offensive things you can come up with in an environment thread!

expatinscotland · 16/05/2006 20:50

dunno. i didn't read it.

manitz · 16/05/2006 21:49

hello nice new area this. interested in composting nappies - was that just normal ones or eco ones? how many bins have you got????

we use washables but disposables at night - also use that sarsons white vinegar on my nappies (in the machine) and soak in lavender oil but hadn't htough of useing on towels etc.

Bozza · 17/05/2006 08:48

Rhubarb I think she has had all her messages deleted for an unrelated issue. Don't want to go into more details obviously. It definitely wasn't offensive.

expat I am not cosmopolitan enough to have a clue where there is a Chinese supermarket, I'm afraid. So I will order the Asda one in the mean time and work on finding out. Will nip to Boots at lunchtime and see if I can find the borax.
