What does it need, then? I might be able to help.

Blu · 15/05/2006 12:43

It's clean, it's green - what else could it need?

iota · 15/05/2006 12:44

solar panels - we need to be self-sustaining

Could do with a lick of paint, I think. Looks a bit tatty. I've got a spraycan of red here, I'll just add a touch of colour Grin

monkeytrousers · 15/05/2006 12:45

Whoo hooo, I suggested this! Grin

Jessajam · 15/05/2006 12:46

RE self -sustaining - Could we find a way to generate some energy from all the hot air spouted (on occasion) elsewhere on MN?!!

Frenchgirl · 15/05/2006 12:46

oh no, we're gonna get bl**dy Dave Cameron over in a minute......

monkeytrousers · 15/05/2006 12:50

Mooncups!!!!Grin

iota · 15/05/2006 12:52

Jessajam - we could extend a large tablecloth over everyone's head and capture it like that - could probably heat a small town Grin

Asda were doing small low energy bulbs for 49p

expatinscotland · 15/05/2006 12:55

A compost bin!

Tatties · 15/05/2006 12:56

Well done MT for suggesting it! Maybe we could get a windmill in the garden?

monkeytrousers · 15/05/2006 12:57

You could get one in my...sorry so excited to be back

expatinscotland · 15/05/2006 17:40

let's get this rolling!

here's the recipe i use for surface cleanser.

500mL water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
.5 teaspoon of washing up liquid
1 tablespoon bicarb of soda
1 teaspoon borax
a few drops of your fav essential oil

Put in a spray bottle, shake well and apply to any hard surface - except wood.

twocatsonthebed · 15/05/2006 17:42

sounds good! where did you get Borax from - I can't find it. Either that or I'm not looking in the right place.

MissChief · 15/05/2006 17:45

great one!
will try - anyone got ideas for an effective deodorant? tried all the crystal sticks or whatever but get too swaety, heard some swear by half a lemon but think they must be those who merely glow rather those those like me who are swaety betties Blush

other than that, walk to school/playgroup etc, don't use the car unless essential! Obvious stuff but can't believe how many of the mums at school drive all of 1 mile to school and back again each day

expatinscotland · 15/05/2006 17:56

i get borax in boots. in their laundry section.

i found tom's of main roll on deodorant w/zinc in a local herbalist shop where i get dd1's shampoo.

expatinscotland · 15/05/2006 17:58

for essential oils, i can't recommend this place enough - GREAT prices, too (no, i'm not related to anyone there or know them, just found 'em on ebay and have enjoyed really quality products from them.

twocatsonthebed · 15/05/2006 17:59

ah, we have a rather pants Boots, which may be the problem. I'll have to go to the Big Town...

Tatties · 15/05/2006 19:07

Expat, how long does the surface cleanser keep for?

Mercy · 15/05/2006 19:10

I saw an advert for a book recently extolling the virtues of vinegar as a multi-purpose product. Anyone have any tips?

expatinscotland · 15/05/2006 21:05

i've used it for about a month, tatties.

tallmummy · 15/05/2006 21:07

I've just mulched me toms with composted nappies!! ( It took 3 years to compost them but it's lovely stuff!)

expatinscotland · 15/05/2006 21:11

mercy
i buy a HUGE jug of vinegar in a Chinese market up the road from our home and use it a lot!

keep some in a spray bottle in your bathroom, mixed w/a few drops of tea tree.

use it as an after shower spray instead of those rank chemically ones.

voila! no mould buildup on your tiles and shower head.

run it through your kettle or coffemaker - i do half vin/half water- to descale.

put a slug of it in the fabric softener compartment mixed w/some essential oil to freshen your clothes.

monkeytrousers · 16/05/2006 09:04

Oh, that sounds great. I don't use fabric conditioner as it has animals in it. Gonna try this though Smile
