Covid Jab

I was wondering if your elderly loved ones had received their covid jab or any information about it yet?
It might be helpful to put in their age and setting.
My GD is 94 and at home (reliant on Carers) but has not yet heard anything.
I’m worried as I visit him every couple of days and my son is back to school tomorrow (tier 4 area)

My grandad 94 had his first 16th Dec and his second this week. We are in South East, all his 90+ friends (of which he has 5) had theirs too.

Aramox · 06/01/2021 04:57

93 y o mum, on blood thinners, hasn't heard anything. Does anyone else know if blood thinners matter as suggested upthread?

Knotaknitter · 06/01/2021 08:19

Mum got the phone call yesterday for a date on either Friday or Saturday.

LIZS · 06/01/2021 08:21

Dps and pils all in 80s not heard so far afaik.

girlsyearapart · 06/01/2021 08:26

One 80 London Borough got dose two yesterday. His wife 79 hasn’t heard anything yet.
Other two sets in the adjoining borough - one aged 79 other 3 aged 72 haven’t heard.

TeenPlusTwenties · 06/01/2021 08:28

DF, 90, first jab 3 weeks ago. Second was due to be yesterday but they cancelled it on Sat under the extending gap policy.
DM, 84 CEV, first jab yesterday, (appt given on Sat) wouldn't have been so soon had it not been for the extending gap policy.
Aunt, 87 CEV, first jab last week.

TJ17 · 06/01/2021 09:00

DN in 80s, first dose this coming Saturday 😊

Lalalatte · 06/01/2021 13:39

Dad, 82, on blood thinners. Nothing yet, has heard that the gp surgery are getting the vaccine/ rolling it out as of this weekend.
Stepdad, 75, but v poor health, also not heard.

Ratched · 06/01/2021 13:43

Just had my dad at surgery for his second jab. Expected it to be postponed, but he had it this morning.
He is 80 and has diabetes. We are in the North East.

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/01/2021 10:47

Nursing home are hoping that dad, 98, may get it next week.

notangelinajolie · 07/01/2021 11:08

North West. South Manchester vacination centre, not his GPs surgery. FIL just had his 2nd jab.
He didn't get a call or text cancelling it so he just went assuming they would give it him - and they did.
I think it was like the the first jab he had - a few no shows so rather than waste it they gave it.

miimblemomble · 08/01/2021 06:28

Edinburgh, MIL 80 in a nursing home. No word of residents getting jabbed, but apparently all the staff have received the vaccine! Probably not a bad idea as every time s as staff member tested positive the entire hone went into 14 days lockdown with residents confined to their rooms!

RC1234 · 08/01/2021 06:45

I think that it depends on the surgery. I am in West Midlands and the phone calls are going out now. However not all the elderly people are answering. I can well believe this. My GM has a hearing loss and never answers the phone, not even to us (she finds it too stressful). If your elderly person is like this it might be worth registering it with their GP so alternative means of communication can be attempted.

Jinglealltheway22 · 08/01/2021 06:59

I agree with PP about surgeries getting in contact with the elderly.

FIL has had his (85) and thankfully my number was on his GP contact details as he never answers his phone. So they called me and I arranged it.

So if anyone has concerns in that department, try to get your number on their record as an alternate contact.

Londonnight · 08/01/2021 07:02

My parents 84 / 86 haven't had a call yet. My dad especially is highly vulnerable with underlying health conditions and on immunosuppressants , so I had been expecting him to at least been called by now.

DanaScully53 · 08/01/2021 07:16

FIL in care home. MIL living at home with carers going in had spleen removed last year. Both in 80s but neither have had their jab yet. My DM 80s has no medical issues so not expecting hers yet.

lazymum99 · 08/01/2021 09:35

DM 87 living at home on her own not heard yet. My DSis phoned surgery and got her number as the contact because when they texted DM for a flu jab last year she read it and did nothing. Probably just forgot. I think they are going to have trouble with contacting this age group.
The dr receptionist just said they don’t know when or where!

drspouse · 08/01/2021 09:38

Most of my mum's over-80 friends have been texted to come in. My dad, however, does not read his texts so didn't get a message (mum is under 80, they are divorced but friendly/in a bubble).

MadisonAvenue · 08/01/2021 10:46

My 87 year old Dad had a text and he’s hopeless with texts, he’s only got a phone in case of emergency when he’s out and we’ve tried and tried to show him how to text and he just can’t grasp it.

Thankfully he called me and I went straight round and sorted it out for him. It wouldn’t have been straightforward for someone who isn’t familiar with tech because it contained a link to the surgery website with a few yes or no boxes to click...but that was a month ago and he’s not heard anything since.

lozster · 08/01/2021 16:12

86 living at home alone, housebound (and noted as such by GP) - no contact to date

I’m not surprised as the programme didn’t start until new year in her area.

Does anyone known how the housebound will be treated? What happened In care homes, was the vaccine taken to the house or is that not possible?

lozster · 08/01/2021 16:33

Also, I see on a vaccine calculator that unpaid carers get prioritised - it knocks 3 months off the wait for me. I dread what would happen if I couldn’t go over to my mum as she is completely dependent on me. How would my own Dr even know this though? Confused

Knotaknitter · 08/01/2021 17:28

I think you are supposed to tell your doctor if you are a carer, that's how they know to offer you a flu jab on the NHS.

drspouse · 08/01/2021 19:04

I'm a carer for my DS who has a disability so I'm down on that list too.

Didiplanthis · 08/01/2021 19:13

It depends if the surgery has had any allocated to them yet... absolutely nothing the individual practices can do about it. We applied for our vaccines right at the very beginning... haven't had any sent out to give yet.. practice 10 miles away got them mid December. They are being rolled out centrally and getting stroppy with the GP who has zero control over when they get vaccine and how much arrives is pointless.

Re housebound this will be when there is enough Oxford one.. the Pfizer one is too unstable to go out in cars. A small amount has gone out in the community so far but only today to a very few areas.

FraterculaArctica · 08/01/2021 19:16

DF age 75 with some other conditions is getting his on Monday.
