Covid Jab

clairea123 · 04/01/2021 00:42

I was wondering if your elderly loved ones had received their covid jab or any information about it yet?
It might be helpful to put in their age and setting.
My GD is 94 and at home (reliant on Carers) but has not yet heard anything.
I’m worried as I visit him every couple of days and my son is back to school tomorrow (tier 4 area)

I was concerned about how the surgery would contact mum because it would be a waste of their time ringing her, she would have forgotten all about it by the time I got there. At 87, living alone with COPD she's not been called yet, every time they get a batch of vaccine they call a few more. I'm happy now that the message will get through, they will contact me, so all I have to do is wait.

MIL (85, home alone, long list of health conditions) had her first jab two weeks ago.

Janedownourlane · 04/01/2021 17:58

My mum, mid eighties, was due to have her jab between 25th Dec and 25th Jan according to the vaccine calculator. Today it now says it will be sometime between March & April!
My own vaccine was to be between May & June, and is now between November to December!!! Good job we put off booking anything abroad. I am 59 with asthma. Looks like we've all been moved back.

Kenworthington · 04/01/2021 18:10

My parents are in the same home both with dementia (one end stage) Aged 82 and 79.
They both received the vaccine on Xmas eve. It didn’t give them immunity in time/ they both tested positive a week later (along with almost everyone else in the home) Sad

Mum5net · 04/01/2021 18:39

Dec 28 Care home, female 89

Grandparent 86, had hers the week before Christmas.

Other Grandparent 85, not had hers, is on blood thinners and seems to be a pattern amongst her friends that those on similar medication haven't been invited for vaccine when others have.

Scarby9 · 04/01/2021 18:49

Northern Tier 4 area.
Dad 84 and on shielding list and mum 85 with dementia both had their first dose between Christmas and New Year.
Of their close friends, both halves of three other couples (both contacted separately and given different dates) and two single friends, all aged between 83 and 88 and only one shielding, had theirs in the same time period.
The final couple, aged 85 and 90 have heard nothing yet.

Parents 81 and 82. GP came out to dad today and dropped into the convo (very sheepishly) that they were expecting the vaccine to arrive tomorrow.

So I guess so our county has been a way down the list Hmm

bigbluebus · 04/01/2021 18:55

Friend in Cheshire messaged earlier to say her parents are having theirs on Wednesday. They are early 90's.
MIL is 92 and lives on her own in Norfolk. She hasn't had a date yet.

ExeterMummaMia · 04/01/2021 19:10

GP, 83 with quite significant heart and circulatory issues is due to have first dose this week.

Other GP, 84, no call or notice yet.

They're registered at different GP surgeries so not sure if that makes any difference too.

AMBOG · 04/01/2021 19:13

Dad 90 living at home with dementia but no other conditions. Mum in care home with dementia and Parkinson’s. Nothing for either. Enquired at surgery and they said they had only had 80 doses so far and they had gone to patients over 80 with 2 health conditions.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 04/01/2021 19:21

MIL 86 has had her first, due for second later this week finger's crossed.
Apparently our surgery was allocated 250 double-doses and had to triage them out amongst their ~800 80+ year olds. MIL was lucky enough to have got in (although obv that means she's at highest risk, so...).

CrotchetyQuaver · 04/01/2021 19:23

DF, 96 in April. Living independently at home (I do his washing and housework). Surgery phoned this morning, his first jab will be on Thursday.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/01/2021 19:26

Kenworthington

Have they both recovered from Covid or are they ill ? Thanks

So sorry to hear it was too late

TJ17 · 04/01/2021 19:31

I don't know how true this is but I did hear they are doing it alphabetically by surname? So all over 80s starting with the A's first. Is your Dad down the list alphabetically?

Otherwise is it worth calling their GP and asking? 🤔

TJ17 · 04/01/2021 19:32

Sorry Grandad *

VioletCharlotte · 04/01/2021 19:37

My GM has had her first jab. She's in her 90's. Second one is due this week, but I believe that is likely to be pushed back now.

harridan50 · 04/01/2021 19:41

Mil and Fil had it new years eve 76 and 79 no major health conditions

Kitkat151 · 04/01/2021 19:43

DM is 84....had hers before Christmas....next one due this week..not been cancelled yet

SirVixofVixHall · 04/01/2021 19:44

My relative is 90 and in an area with extremely high case numbers, I think possibly the highest in the country, he hasn’t heard anything yet.

CMOTDibbler · 04/01/2021 21:22

FIL is 80 (at home, caring for terminally ill MIL), and had his on the 22nd

MintyCedric · 05/01/2021 00:53

GP out to Dad this morning.

Apparently our county is getting its first supplies of the vaccine tomorrow...

notangelinajolie · 05/01/2021 01:31

FIL due to have his second jab on the 7th. No one has contacted him to say it's been cancelled and he is adamant that it is still going ahead and has a taxi booked to get him there. I feel very sorry for the staff at the vaccination centre if he gets there and then finds out he can't have it. It's across town so not a short taxi ride and it will cost him quite a sum of money to get there and back - he will not be happy if he's sent away with another appointment. He may be nearly 83 but he's a force to be reckoned with Hmm
DH jokingly has said he's going to call Sky News to film it. He won't - I won't let him Grin

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/01/2021 09:40

My mum, mid eighties, was due to have her jab between 25th Dec and 25th Jan according to the vaccine calculator. Today it now says it will be sometime between March & April! The wording on the calculator suggests it's full protection, ie when the course is completed. So I think the change in dates reflects that the second jab is now going to be 3 months after the first rather than 3 weeks.A~

oneglassandpuzzled · 05/01/2021 09:44

My mother, 82 with an suppressed immune system, will have her second doze of Pfizer this week, as planned, her GP practice has confirmed.

MadisonAvenue · 05/01/2021 09:47

My 87 year old Dad had a text from his GP on Dec 12th inviting him to reply ASAP if he wanted the vaccine so that an appointment could be set up. I went straight round and did that for him as it was a faff and he’s not good with technology but as of yet he’s heard nothing else.

My 85 year old mother is registered with a different surgery and hasn’t been contacted at all.

There was a vaccine clinic arranged in our area on Dec 19th but it was cancelled the night before as the vaccine wasn’t delivered. It’s not yet been rescheduled.
