Confused by DD's report; actually flabbergasted

DD has got fabulous results in some subjects

I can't understand it - I was expecting a page on unsatisfactory and maybe '3a's

But this is truely bizarre

English --,5b, 5b, 5c 5c
Maths , 4a, , 6c 5c
Science 4b, 4a, 5a, 6a 5c

How does that make sense?

The numbers in bold are her targets

GroovyGretel · 16/06/2010 21:54

Wow! What fantastic results - she should feel very proud of herself.

Katymac · 16/06/2010 21:55

Yes but she can't see

It doesn't make sense

How can she get marks like that when she can't see

OP posts:
Katymac · 16/06/2010 21:58

She got 2 unsatisfactory, 3 satisfactory, 5 good & 5 outstandings

I mean how??

It will be based on teacher assessment, then - and you'd have to assume they've done some basing the assessment on what they knew her to be capable of before the sight loss, and her contribution in class etc. She's done bloody well, especially given what she's gone through.

NickOfTime · 16/06/2010 22:00

depends how they tested her, katy. they will have dispensation in place to use a scribe etc if she isn't keyboarding yet, and maybe extra time.

have you asked her how she sat the papers? she may have been in a separate room so she could dictate her answers without anyone else hearing.

if it was course work then some of it would have been done before her visual issues?

maybe school have been coping better than you thought?

best to check if her friends have somehow been involved though...

Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:00

Could it be something to do with sensory overload? Less input leading to better outcomes

OP posts:
Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:01

It feels quite wrong somehow

I didn't think the key stage 2 results had been published to parents yet? They are sent off, not marked by the teachers.

Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:03

These aren't Key stage 2

These are just in year assessments

OP posts:
belledechocolatefluffybunny · 16/06/2010 22:04

Ahh.
Can you ask them to explain tomorrow?

Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:05

She is yr 7

this is so odd

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 16/06/2010 22:06

What form did the assessments take? Did she do tests? Did she have a reader/scribe?

TheFallenMadonna · 16/06/2010 22:06

HAve you asked her what they did?

Ask her how she sat the tests before you do anything else.

Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:10

English is just as normal

Someone read the comprehension to her & the questions - her grade has remained steady

Maths - they did the test 3 dimensionally with pegs & shapes & stuff

Science - a combination of reading out questions and answering verbally & written

I think

OP posts:
Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:11

There have been 4 tests over the year (so far)

The last one is the shocker which was just before half term

OP posts:
NickOfTime · 16/06/2010 22:45

be very proud. she seems to be coping, and school seem to be putting sensible academic/ curriculum supports in place.

just the health and safety/ moving around the premises issues to go now?

Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:48

Well maybe she is crashing & burning in French. Spanish , Art, IT, Dance & Drama

Mainly holding her own in History, geography, RE, Tech

OP posts:
NickOfTime · 16/06/2010 22:51

they would be more difficult to put support in place, so theoretically she might dip a bit whilst they organise the lsa? bit more specialist?

NickOfTime · 16/06/2010 22:52

it is good news katy - it means they are making sure that they sort out the major curriculum stuff first. you just have to make sure they do as well for the rest of her subjects, and the in-between time...

Katymac · 16/06/2010 22:56

Do you think

I mean she is only supported during assessments goodness knows where her scores will be if she is supported properly in class
