School on birthdays?

How standard is it for a thirteen year old to take a day off school on their birthday in order to go birthday present shopping with their mum?

I wouldn't. DD's was 12 on friday and she had a lovely day at school.

Not something I've heard of happening, though DS always falls on halfterm anyway. But no way I'd give him a day off just because of a birthday.

N. I'm cruel and have forced the DDs to school on theirs, despite never having gone on mine (August) and also ensuring I always book a day off work for mine too

DSs b/day always seems to fall one or two days before the start of Sept term, so hasn't arisen.

I often take my birthday off as I really hate my job.

i have let ds stay off school on his birthday once or twice but he is still in primary school . he then brings in cake & goodies to school the next day .

I made DS go into school (year 7) on his birthday last year and he came home covered in bruises from getting 'birthday beats' from other pupils. Completely spoiled his day.

Although it's apparently only done in the first year of secondary around our way, he's having this year's birthday off, and will come out shopping for goodies with me.

No! They get spoiled with extra attention at school - and you get some time to prepare the house for birthday tea etc.
