Do the words "my child goes to prep school" anger you?

I started another thread and mentoned that my son went to prep school. I was shocked as I thought MN was all-inclusive, or should I start an alternative site called "MaterNet"

Sorry all a bit Tom Browns schooldays for me

noodlesoup · 10/09/2009 21:56

Daily Mail. They pick a thread every week and publish it, including posting names, including upsetting errors. They also 'write' other articles based on threads which may or may not be started by journos where they take something totally out of context and bitch about it for 500 words.

Hardly anyone mentioned the fact that it was a prep school in the other thread and if they did it was usually just to say that it makes no difference generally and some schools are better than others at these things. You did ask.

noodlesoup · 10/09/2009 21:58

prep school prepared for public schools in the days of yore.

hatwoman · 10/09/2009 21:59

mrcerec - I've just looked at the other thread and the vast majority of replies are completely acceptable responses to your question. about 2 or 3 people asked why mentioning that it was a prep school was relevant. seems a fair enough question. and you answered it, with your explanation that you wondering if a state school might have handled things differently. if you think you had some sort of rough ride on that thread then I'd advise developing a thicker skin. In terms of both merciless piss-taking and genuine anger that thread scores about 0.01 on the 0-10 mn scale. if that.

live to post again and remember no mn grudges
just a bunch of strangers with PC tap tapping. have a laugh dont take too seriously

macaronicheeseplease · 10/09/2009 22:05

No. I've never understood why people get angry over what schools other people choose for their dch. What's the point? Why take it personally? Do you get annoyed when people have private healthcare? They are both just personal preference.

noodlesoup · 10/09/2009 22:06

mrcerec, if you want to read some corkers can I recommend you go to topics, look under Mumsnet Stuff, click on Mumsnet classics. Or you could try this thread which has been omitted for some reason.

Enjoy

scottishmummy · 10/09/2009 22:06

private health care and private education are very contentious

mrcerec · 10/09/2009 22:07

oo. I wouldn't expect a surgeon to do a sad face.

hatwoman · 10/09/2009 22:12

oh noodlesoup - I clicked on your link and as soon as I saw the words "supersoaker" started chuckling.

noodlesoup · 10/09/2009 22:13

I sometime wake up at night chuckling over that one. The best was the dh with the saucepan/kitchen stuff.

macaronicheeseplease · 10/09/2009 22:14

Sorry OP, my post wasn't aimed at you. Meant to say that I don't understand why people get angry etc.

Scottishmummy - but why? Jealousy? Inverted snobbery? I don't understand. Would these people who object to private education object to, say, big cars or fancy holidays?

mrcerec · 10/09/2009 22:17

my keyboard battery is failing - so goodnight. off to have some herbal tea and for dogonpoints

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 10/09/2009 22:21

the obvious inequality that money buys advantages whether health or education is obvious reason private provision is contentious
