HMC, Pistols at dawn, darlink?????

Kaz33 · 20/05/2005 19:05

No, no, no - total inverted snob here. Boarding school educated kids tend to be overly confident, shallow and mostly obnoxious. Also they seem to treat life like an extention of boarding school - they hunt in packs. Met quite a few as an ex edinburgh university, law college and city lawyer.

Of course I am an anti social miserable curmudgeon so it might just be me

crunchie · 20/05/2005 19:06

Is Harrow just as bad as Eton?? I only ak becasue the boys in my whole faily wnt there My dad, my brothers etc and they are CERTAINLY NOT the poncey english brat type. However they sis hate it and never fitted in to the whole thing. I would never ever send my kids away to school, however if I had the money I would look at a private day school. DH went to Ipswich school and we went back for a reunion, he certianly got better facilities than my local comp

PuffTheMagicDragon · 20/05/2005 19:07

I used to sing with the boys at Eton and there were some twerps, but plenty of lovely lads too .

handlemecarefully · 20/05/2005 19:08

Happymerryberries,

I am waaay too prole to get involved in a duel. Wouldn't know what to do with the safety catch etc

handlemecarefully · 20/05/2005 19:10

As an inverted snob like Kaz I probably only noticed those who fitted my preconceived stereotype

happymerryberries · 20/05/2005 19:11

Shall we just have a scrap instead? I'll start taking out my earings ready

handlemecarefully · 20/05/2005 19:12

splutter....(lol) don't hit me! [pleading emoticon]

happymerryberries · 20/05/2005 19:12

In all honesty I expected them all to be a bunch of dickheads, but I was wrong and I was being an inverted snob (working class and proud of it etc etc)

lavenderrr · 20/05/2005 19:13

no

franch · 20/05/2005 19:43

No no no no no! All the old Etonians I went to university with were obnoxious misogynists. Plus my brother was permanently psychologically scarred by boarding school.

Kaz33 · 20/05/2005 19:46

They are thick as well

weesaidie · 20/05/2005 19:52

Not in a million years.

happymerryberries · 20/05/2005 19:56

Sorry Kas, but that is a crock

SoupDragon · 20/05/2005 19:57

Quite frankly, I'd be happy to send them to Borstal if it stopped them bickering.

Kaz33 · 20/05/2005 19:58

Damn you found me out - how about a compromise most of them are thick

This is no fun as a barny.

Gobbledigook · 20/05/2005 20:00

Never. Not even private school.

happymerryberries · 20/05/2005 20:00

How about a compromise, some of them are thick, some are avarage and some can be brlliant, just like the kids I teach every day!

grubbyscrubber · 20/05/2005 20:01

I obviously only know the brilliant unstuckup ones then

grubbyscrubber · 20/05/2005 20:01

(oh ok I don't know any)

triceratops · 20/05/2005 20:06

Boarding school suits some children but not mine. And for the money I would want the best school - not the one with the silliest uniform and some famous old boys. I would consider the presence of girls to be essential for a good well rounded education.

happymerryberries · 20/05/2005 20:11

There are some mixed comprehensive schools who now teach science in single sex classes as both boys and girls do better that way. Agree that the social side of things is important though

PuffTMD, thanks. The junior bit has been suggested to me as probably ds-friendly, so insider info very useful.

happymerryberries · 20/05/2005 20:18

Ironicaly, and this is begining to sound as if I am making it up, I once asked said old etonian mate of mine if he was pissed off that his parents had packed him off to boarding school. His answer surprised me he said, 'HMB at 14 who did you want to spend most time with your family or your friends?'

I felt it must have left him emotionaly scarred, but it didn't!

And trust me there are some parents you would better not being with! Me, for example, on a bad day
