my friends brother got in on scholorship (cant spell) and declined because his mum could never "keep up" with the others really... She was basically a single mum.

But you get quite a mix of boys and in fact it's not the done thing to have say a flashy car. My old volvo estate I suppose would be the right tone. Was it downside where that black inner city boy got a scholarship, was filmed and then expelled (sponsored I think by Tevor Phillips?). That didn't work. His behaviour was too bad.

Well said Issymum.

xenia - get real??! not a flashy car - just a private helicopter to get away at weekends to the airport,to go to your own flat in Kensington when you're studying at St Andrews eh??

isn't this htread really about "would you send your child to a private school" , why pick out eton ? and why do people come out with the same old stuff on all these threads ... the anti-private education camp harping on about "twatty little snobs" and the pro camp yelling back about how well adjusted happy normal kids go to and come out of private schools. Lets face it private education is expensive , so yes the people who pay have that money ( wether easily or struggling to find it they do have it) and if the anti camp think it makes everyone jumped snobs then so be it. Surely the most important thing is that you find the right school for your child so they can become happy and fulfilled adults.

not really - I went to a private school. Eton is an upper class private school. Something I wouldnt try to get into even if I had the power to do so, because I dont like the UK social system.

Judy1234 · 04/12/2006 21:23

Eton is for clever boys. Most children at private schools are not very clever and many are thick, particularly at the boarding schools rather than the competitive day private schools.

whatwould... it's quite hard to get the tone just right actually. Fascinating to watch. Flashy nouveau always looks awful etc. We're so lucky to have all this to observe in the UK. I wish I had been a female Desmond Morris sometimes. I expect it is ever thus..... with India having the most complex caste system of all.
