Really annoyed - DD was told in front of the whole class that something she had worked hard on was "Pure crap" by the teacher

You are not over reacting, that's unbelievable an incredibly bad attitude.

PandaG · 04/03/2009 20:20

totally unacceptable. I think you are right to follow it up.

notnowbernard · 04/03/2009 20:20

That's awful

Poor dd

Hope it doesn't affect her enthusiasm for dancing in any way

The woman should be made to leave, IMO

glinda · 04/03/2009 20:23

That wasn't "quite nasty" it was utterly unprofessional . Our, admittedly fantastic, head is always present at after school activities run by outside specialists for this very reason. Often their specialist experitise is invaluable but their judgment regarding working with children can be suspect to say the least.

llareggub · 04/03/2009 20:28

You really aren't over-reacting. I hope the Head deals with this appropriately. The dance teacher doesn't sound like she has the skills to work with children.

beanieb · 04/03/2009 20:29

That's horrid. i was once singled out in front of everyone by a teacher at auditions for the school play and it left a mark on me for years making me feel like if the teachers were so against me so publicly then I didn't stand a chance.

hopefully you can find ways to let your daughter know that she is not crap and neither is her dancing. Poor thing.

poopscoop · 04/03/2009 20:44

dreadful. poor dd. deffo complain

compo · 04/03/2009 20:45

if she's already had a warning she's going to be in a lot of trouble surely?
Are you sure that's what she said? Someone heard her yes?

rachels103 · 04/03/2009 20:45

Very nasty. This person shouldn't be welcome in the school if this is the way she speaks to children.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/03/2009 20:48

a very bad attitude and you aren't over-reacting at all. Teachers are supposed to encourage children and be constructive, not destroy them with impulsive criticism.

You are right to follow this up.

ARAG · 04/03/2009 20:49

She needs to be checked. She's young, and needs to learn propriety and manners and the fact that teachers-don't-demean-kids. Sounds like your DD has handled it well... well done you!

oh, your poor dd.
i remember all the stuff before- i hope you get this sorted out.

An apology in fromt of the same group of kids wouldn't go amiss i reckon.

good luck

piscesmoon · 04/03/2009 23:01

You are not over reacting-it was nasty.

Northernlurker · 04/03/2009 23:44

Well I'm very hands off and let them find their own way and what doesn't kill them makes them stronger.....and I would be absolutely LIVID if this happened to one of my girls! You are absolutely right to follow it up - and bravo to your dd for not letting bother her. Rather scary when a 7 (?) year old girl is able to show more maturity of attitude than her teacher!

I would see her in person agree with all that has been said that is terrible - both for the way it was said and also for what was said. She should not be in charge of children

TotalChaos · 05/03/2009 10:38

Not overreacting. teacher sounds incredibly immature - the sort of thing a 14 year old neighbour would say, not a paid teacher!

wilbur · 05/03/2009 10:42

and for your dd. That is awful, especially when she has worked so hard. I bet her dance was great. I would def try and see the head, if only to make sure she has words and also so that she can ask your dd's class teacher to big her up a bit for the next week or so. It would be terrible if she got discouraged from trying hard by this.

purpleduck · 05/03/2009 10:57

I would see the head personally.
I am amazed ahe got a WARNING for calling them wee bitches. She should have went.

Also, does this teacher belong to any sort of Professional body? If so, I would register a complaint with them, and with your Council & the Governing body.
