Why do the pictures by children at a Steiner school look pretty much identical?

ARe they told what to draw?

OP posts:

I've just read through this thread again, and I don't think there is anything which would cause Mumsnet to give in to demands to delete it - no-one has made any statements which could give rise to legal complaints.

However, it is important to keep all comments on the right side of that line, as Mumsnet cannot afford to risk the legal battle which would ensue, and therefore are cautious on this issue!

plumandolive · 04/12/2008 17:13

barking- which bit of the thread which was deleted do you think they objected to? It was only answering a question from a parent.

It seems mumsnet always delete any threads about Steiner schools.
That's absurd.

barking · 04/12/2008 17:16

AMuminScotland - yes I agree, I am being very restrained with what I'm saying, I wish I could say more.

If anyone is interested in who Sune Nordwall and Percy Bratt are, I suggest you google their names and then translate the pages to see what they are doing to free speech.

barking · 04/12/2008 17:21

PlumandOlive - I suspect it was because I gave the reason why the schools exist.

Maria33 · 04/12/2008 17:24

I emailed MN towers to ask what happened and apparently the OP asked for the thread to be removed. So, no evil anthroposophists this time

barking · 04/12/2008 17:25

Absurd is the word, especially when I read some of the posts on 'what is the best sleb secret you know' thread.

barking · 04/12/2008 17:27

Maria33, that is odd, why would she want to delete her own thread?

plumandolive · 04/12/2008 17:32

How bizarre- why delete a thread you've started.
Most peculiar.

barking · 04/12/2008 17:36

Did you get a reason Maria?
I wonder if she was contacted off thread?

Maria33 · 04/12/2008 17:46

They just said "for personal reasons".

plumandolive · 04/12/2008 18:13

Did you contribute to the thread Maria?
Was it contraversial?

barking · 04/12/2008 18:52

PlumandOlive - If I remember correctly the question wasn't being asked by the original poster, I'm sure she said she was asking on behalf of her friend.

Think the original poster was called Padboz or Padbox

barking · 04/12/2008 19:20

From what I remember her friend has a son of 4 and they were interested in steiner education and wanted to know more.

plumandolive · 04/12/2008 19:26

Well it's very curious, but I suppose considering the rumpus there was before, it's small potatoes.
It is fascinating though, because if people want to find out about it from other parents, and then threads are deleted, it will make people quite interested in why.

AMumInScotland · 04/12/2008 19:42

If the OP was asking about someone else's situation, she may well have had second thoughts about the thread - that often happens when people say more than they maybe think they should about another family. Probably not Steiner-related in that case, but it's always going to make people wonder

plumandolive · 05/12/2008 11:53

I think you're right amum. It can suddenly dawn on you that another person you're talking about may twig.
The wondering will be there though, with all the stuff that's gone on before.

AlderTree · 05/12/2008 14:57

Do not want to get anyone into trouble here but reading this has me a bit worried. Friends of ours are involved with Steiner and as it is no secret I know someone who uses such a school I am often asked about it by people enquiring for their children. twice this has been by families whose children have special needs and are looking for a child centred alternative to regualr school. I am a teacher and my opinion is well regarded. So now have two problems - giving others the right info. and my friends invites for us to be involved with events at their Steiner school, supporting their involvement. Can't go into details and I have to go to school to collect ds. But I seriously need to read those links. Actually very worried, not good feeling....

barking- that's very helpful.
There are links from those sites too - waldorf problems and other interesting articles, by people who have studied this at great length.

AlderTree · 05/12/2008 21:11

Thanks Barking. I think I get what you mean. I have managed to scan EASE and CHASE. I guess at the heart of this is a relationship issue reagrding how our friendship will continue.

barking · 05/12/2008 21:27

Aldertree, old friendships tend not to survive as families following steiner will gradually find the outside world at odds with their new found beliefs.

They are also encouraged to keep themselves inside the community so the families can support each other in following the philosophy.

barking · 05/12/2008 21:35

They will however hold fayres and open days which are incredibly enchanting. These show all the creative and natural qualities of the education but without the philosophy.

Janni · 05/12/2008 22:08

Not a day goes by now when I do not feel glad that we are out. Free!

barking · 05/12/2008 22:21

Hi Janni, long time no see
Me too.

northernrefugee39 · 06/12/2008 08:48

Hi Janni and barking.
AlderTree-I'm not allowed to post on Steiner because of threats of legal action.

So when people ask about it, as a parent who had three children at a Steiner school attatched to a camphill community, I'm not allowed to comment.

On other threads here, I was harassed by an anthroposophist, who followed me around the net, continually posted what he thought was my real name, talked about my maiden name , posted things like " I see you everywhere" and said he wasn't " trying to find out where I live"

I still had connections with the community, and for my young children's sake, I begged him to stop, but he obviously gained some sort of satisfaction from scaring me, just as these legal threats are- to scare.

These posts have probably been deleted by now from mumsnet archives, I'm not sure.

I felt very harrassed and actually frightened.

But regretably, mumsnet chose to fall in with these demands.

I receive emails from mumsnet even if I go on a thread and barely comment- like this

"We're dropping you an email because it's been brought to our notice
that you are (as northernrefugee) posting about Steiner again.

We appreciate that you're not actually starting the threads yourself
but you are adding posts to threads that others start and we need to
ask you to stop.

While we know how strongly you feel about this - and we appreciate
your opinion - we really cannot allow the situation to continue. As
Justine has told you before, Mumsnet simply doesn't have the resources to fight this battle ? and it is your battle, rather than ours. There are plenty of other places - the national press, a forum of your own - where you could air your opinions just as publically and as strongly.

If you continue to post about Steiner on Mumsnet after these repeated warnings, we will have no option but to ban you. And we'd really like not to have to do that.

Yours
Helen
MNHQ"

There have been quite a few.

I think what mumsnet don't realise, is this isn't about "opinions" and it isn't a "battle"- it's giving people information.

Please feel free to cat me.

And if I'm banned for this- so be it.
