Dannyb, when i worked n Barnet 5 years ago QE boys was like a factory - the boys were there for the school and had to fit into the school, the school was not at all for the benefit of the boys.
You were not allowed to do an A level in a subject unless you were predicted an A at GCSE and got an A. If you were predicted a B but got an A at gcse you still were not allowed to do it. They had loads of boys doing nvq's so they din't mess up the school's a level results.

mumblechum you have a lucky son to be in a high achieving school - but surely it should be 100% pass rate at A - C at GCSE if they have got in on 11plus? How can anyone be allowed to get less than a C at GCSE if they are at grammar school, even if it is only one or two students in or two subjects. I'm in Kent where grammars are rife. Our local comprehensive achieved 90% A - C this year, only a few percentage points behind some of the grammar schools here. Anyway, these stats are pretty meaningless, it's the VA you need to look at when deciding where to send your children.

Loads where I am in Gloucester, have the hell of 11+ coming up with ds.

Agree that alot of parents pay mad amounts on tutoring to ensure a place.

There are four grammar schools in Slough.

Thanks Carmander

I'm the product of a school with a similar mentality and I had a feeling it would be like that but I think i'd still be interested if I thought that he could handle the pressure but if I wasn't sure then I'd certainly not send him. We don't have a lot of other options where we are though unless we go for faith secondary or stump up £12k a year for Habs / City / UCS which are the same mentality as QEB

Pluto

In fact, ds's school this year got all A to Cs at GCSE, with 37 out of 92 getting straight As.

Something tells me these are going to take a dip when ds does his in 2.5 years....
