After school club fees

How much do you pay for your children’s after school club fees? I was paying £4 a session last term (3-5.45pm) and this term the price has gone up to £8 a session. I’m just intrigued to see how much others pay for after school clubs?

£13 for 3.15-6pm, same cost however long you use it. Run by the school - some of the TAs and teachers work there.

Very limited places. It's taken two years for us to finally get a place two days a week. There are no external providers around here, and only two childminders who pick up from the school.

Callmemummynotmaaa · 28/08/2025 16:34

London - £26 3:15-6.15 per child, no sibling discounts. External provider in school setting. Snacks provided. Slightly cheaper if earlier collection. Adding breakfast club is c. £6 per day per child 8-9.

OxfordInkling · 28/08/2025 16:42

£10 for 3:15 to 4:30pm.
£16.50 if you want until 6pm.
No tea provided - just a snack.

sunshineandrain82 · 28/08/2025 17:57

£5 3.15-4.15
£7 3.15-5.15

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 30/08/2025 21:23

£7 3.25-6.00 no snack included.

CaveMum · 30/08/2025 21:28

Ours is in 3 sessions with school finishing at 3.20:
Stay till 4.15pm - £5.50 (includes small snack)
Stay till 5pm - £9 (includes more substantial snack like toast or crumpets)
Stay till 5.45pm - £12.50 (includes light meal like beans on toast or pasta in tomato sauce)

TheOneWithUnagi · 30/08/2025 21:58

£16 til 6pm

bizzare · 31/08/2025 18:17

It was about £13 for 3.20 until 6pm, snack was crackers and squash, that was 2 years ago so probably more now. High star turnover, badly organised, it was incredibly expensive for minimal supervision. As soon as DS started year 6 and could safely be home alone we pulled him out. I think unless they are run by the school they are likely to be poor.

Sirzy · 31/08/2025 18:23

We charged £6 for 2 hours and most nights didn’t make enough to break even.

from September we are extending to 2.5 hours and changing to £10

Scottishgirl85 · 31/08/2025 18:25

£15 here. £8 is very cheap. £4 was utterly ridiculous!!

Philandbill · 31/08/2025 18:27

Ours was £8 seven years ago when DD2 was last there. There was a snack included for that and the staff were lovely. Used to have to drag DD away....

TurquoiseDress · 31/08/2025 18:48

Wow £4 seems ridiculously cheap!

Our one is £16 per child for the after school club running from 3.25pm until 6pm, a hot meal include although one of my DC tends to not eat most of it/doesn’t like what they serve

TurquoiseDress · 31/08/2025 18:49

My kids school ASC is in high demand most days (apart from Fridays) so if you forget to sign them up via the app you’re a bit screwed! Grin

DeliciouslyBaked · 31/08/2025 19:10

London - £17.50. Run in a portacabin on the school grounds with a snack and drink. Finishes at 5.45pm though which is a bit tight for us but we'll see how it pans out.

MimsyMe · 31/08/2025 19:24

Ours is £17.50 from 3.30 to 6pm and you can’t book a part-session.

we have stopped using it unless we have to as it is ludicrous

SquigglePigs · 31/08/2025 19:25

Ours is £8. 3.30-5.30pm.

They get a snack - usually toast, sometimes a sandwich or crisps. They do make pancakes with them on pancake day though, which is cool and sometimes do random things like tropical fruit tasting etc.

That's insane! I'm surprised they have any takers at that price!!

Lazytiger · 31/08/2025 19:56

Breakfast club is free.
After school activities (1 hour) are about £8 - usually by external providers.

In-house school (babysitting club) 3.15-6.15 is £15 (no discount if you are doing an activity first, you get charged for the place).

DeltaFlyer · 31/08/2025 20:00

My son's is £5.50 for 3:30 to 4:30pm or £11 to 5:30pm. That's for wrap around care. If staying after 4:30pm they get a little snack like breadsticks or a few ricecakes and some fruit. Just things like colouring and Lego on offer.
The curriculum clubs are £4 to 4:30pm so I book those where I can as only need him in until 4:30pm anyway and he gets more from it anyway. Few sporty things, cooking, crafts etc.

DeltaFlyer · 31/08/2025 20:05

I think sons is pricey but it is good for being flexible as you can book on up until 2pm the same day and if you have booked in advance you don't get charged for it if you cancel before lunch.
You also don't need to stick to set sessions like some providers which is handy for DHs shift work.

TheUmpire · 25/10/2025 04:04

It's £6 for an early morning start at my kid's school, but what ticks me is the £9 extra charge if you pay after a certain time. I was verbally told by the office that as long as I booked seven days in advance I would not have to pay the additional charge, so yesterday paid online £6 at 11am for a morning that starts eleven days later. I was then informed I'd have to pay the additional £9 (fine) because I booked this after 10.30, and the rules are that the week holiday coming up meant I'm affectively paying with less than a week to go and 10.30am was the cut off (when I read the small print it does give the cut off date). Grrr. To claw back my cash I've decided to make zero contributions for the total of £9 when they start asking my kid to bring in gifts for this and that.

Meadowfinch · 25/10/2025 04:13

Crikey OP, I paid £12 a session in 2019 for 3.15 - 6pm State primary.

Scotstar · 25/10/2025 04:45

Privately run wraparound as school one has no spaces...£13 for 0730 to 0900 and £20 for 1515-1800. £45 for 0800-1800 in holidays. Aberdeen

niki26 · 25/10/2025 05:03

For my year 5 child - Homework club is 3.30-4.30 and then 4.30-6 if we wish to use them. Both are ‘free’. She also has Dance club and Netball (Mondays and Tuesdays) 3.30-4.30 and they are also provided by the school at no charge.

For my reception age child clubs after school clubs are non existent until Year 1. Wrap around session 1 is £6 and session 2 (which includes a light tea) is £13.50.

I say ‘free’ because it’s an independent school.

kersh33 · 25/10/2025 05:31

Gosh - I always find these threads really alarming. I am abroad and my DD’s school day finishes at 4.45 but the wraparound care is until 6.30 and costs €1.50. Granted there is no food included and it is primarily running around in the playground with her friends or doing colouring in or drawing inside. But I am very grateful it makes it so inexpensive for working parents. I really don’t know how parents in the UK manage with the costs.
