SaltySeaCat · 27/03/2024 09:28

6.9%

Hoppinggreen · 27/03/2024 09:32

3.5%.
Last year for DS so will miss any VAT addition too thank God.
I would be pretty worried if I had 2 at the Prep/Lower school right now unless I was very wealthy - which is who Private Education will solely be for in the future I think

twistyizzy · 27/03/2024 09:35

Currently awaiting notification.
Last year, our first year, was 11% and lots of grumbles so hoping it will be under 10% 🤞

Labraradabrador · 27/03/2024 11:24

Digimoor · 28/03/2024 07:44

I spoke with a friend yesterday who said theirs are going up 20%!

Flev · 28/03/2024 09:30

5.5% here

edwinbear · 28/03/2024 10:42

7% for us.

vivalasviva · 28/03/2024 10:50

7% - Big London day school

MoralOrLegal · 28/03/2024 12:49

4% here, I also happen to know that the staff are on a pay freeze.

WombatChocolate · 28/03/2024 15:04

Ours is 5%.

unprof · 28/03/2024 19:44

10%. Not happy.

BlackSwanEvent · 28/03/2024 20:06

6%

Labraradabrador · 28/03/2024 23:02

@unprof how did they justify 10%?

at 6% it felt higher than expected for us but not so much as would complain. I wonder if some schools are trying to build a war chest to insulate against potential disruption due to VAT?

  1. Kept rises small during the pandemic years (but my DC is joining the school in September so that is before our time)
  2. Costs (labour, energy, materials) rising at higher rate than inflation
  3. Needing to compete for teachers in competitive market
  4. "We also need to generate a very modest surplus that is an essential buffer against future uncertainty." Ie yes to your question about needing a war chest in the face of potential VAT.

They locked us in (hefty deposit, deadlines passed to reject all other options) before hitting us with this.

YireosDodeAver · 28/03/2024 23:11

5.9% here. The letter about it warns that if the law requires it, VAT may be added on top of the amount during the year ahead.

Dibblydoodahdah · 28/03/2024 23:17

9.5%. The highest we’ve had since my oldest son started at the school 10 years ago.

Digimoor · 29/03/2024 11:17

6.5% from the other school

TeaandHobnobs · 29/03/2024 11:21

3.5%. Not as much as last year, which I think was 7%. I suspect they may have tried to limit it because of the prospect of VAT.

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 29/03/2024 11:35

Do you hear by letter or email? If email would it be possible it would come out today given it’s Good Friday?

Have just paid deposit for joining in 2024 and not sure how this works but keen to know!

Besideourselves · 29/03/2024 11:37

15%! We are gobsmacked. No explanation just an email with a link to the fee page on the website!

Digimoor · 29/03/2024 11:38

It depends on the school - most will announce the new fees in time to allow people to give notice to leave in Sept
One of our local prep schools usually doesn't announce the new fees until the end of the summer term!

Thanks @Digimoor ! The school have said they will let us know soon but not sure whether I should be looking to the inbox or the letterbox 🤣

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 29/03/2024 11:41

15% !!! That’s insane!
