332 children didn't get a place at secondary school in Hackney this year...

This is not just children who didn't get a place in their first choice school, mark you - this is children who didn't get a place at all.

I feel very despondent about this. DS1 is in Year 4 so we don't have much time to ponce about with this. I really don't want to move but I am starting to think we are mad to stay .

Are you (at least) getting LRBs to read? Any other care package items appeal?

frogs · 27/03/2008 13:35

Dh brought me earplugs, bundle, wouldn't be in a hospital without 'em.

No sign of LRB, bink, I guess the wheels grind slow? But have just spent £70 on an Amazon DVD order, which should keep me happy for a bit!

SixSpotBurnet · 27/03/2008 13:36

Oh yikes . How awful.

Yes, what can we do/send/bring?

OP posts:
bundle · 27/03/2008 13:38

yes let's get an Emergency Package

frogs please list a few ideas

frogs · 27/03/2008 13:39

You are all v. kind. I'm okay atm, as still quite dazed from painkillers (sadly they wouldn't send me home with liquid morphine, which is quite nice in a Benylin+++ kind of way).

But will def need kind people to meet up with in a few weeks once I'm up to venturing beyond my front door on my crutches. No weight-bearing for 6 weeks, eek.

SixSpotBurnet · 27/03/2008 13:45

Yes, of course. Let's find a venue on your doorstep where we can turn the sprogs loose and drink tea and eat cake.

What's this about a meet-up at Yum Yum? About 10 mins away from me...

Mossbourne gets v good results, doesn't it? I know someone who teaches there and the quality of the staff sounds great. I know there's a prob with admissions though

bundle · 27/03/2008 13:54

neighbour put down mossbourne, but got a place at JFS as they're jewish..

bundle · 27/03/2008 15:53

mine expired last aug and don't think i got a reminder..only just resubscribed

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 16:25

Done

frogs · 27/03/2008 16:29

If anyone else wants to co-ordinate this, do feel free! Otherwise, if you could all make sure you're on my email list, I'll copy you in. Hopefully I'll be okay to make YY in a minicab by then, but won't swear to it -- we may have to relocate to eg. my kitchen.

But we can organise offboard if y'all get in touch.

Er, back to the schools, this is scarey! Ds is only 2 and I am worried (not to mention my worries about primary school). What DOES happen to those who get no places? There's a public meetingt about this, I've seen signs in N16 on high street, but don't know if it will be informative or just complaining - councillors are speaking.

SixSpotBurnet · 27/03/2008 16:53

cockles, some of them get places in schools in other boroughs, but I really don't know what happens to the rest!

Primary schools in Hackney are, in general, not too bad though .

Hi all, just noticed about Frogs..you poor thing. I dread dh coming off his bike. Mum was in the Whittington a year or 2 ago prob same ward as you were in. She was visiting us, tripped up outside the pub and broke her hip.
Anyway hope things aren't too grim for you. When you're up and about come and visit that new charity shop I told you about. In there today, loads of Boden, Gap, etc. Got a really lovely skirt for the summer...

Sorry for the hijack!

maggiethecat · 28/03/2008 23:51

Bundle, must hijack things a bit. How are you finding Joan of Arc? We used to be in Manor House (went to Thomas More church with Fr Clive) and looked at JoA but in the end moved to Harrow. Everyday I pine for old home (and to think that Clissold Leisure opened up back after we left!) DD is settling in nicely at her school here but a part of me thinks that we will be back in Hackney - just not sure what to think of secondary schools options. But back to question - how is JoA?

MrsMattie · 01/04/2008 12:47

I sympathise. We left Hackney because of the schools in the end. Have you looked into the whole (dreaded!) tutoring /application to selective schools thing?

Also, whoever mentioned kids from Islington going to Stoke Newington School - getting into most most non- denominational schools in both boroughs (Hackney and Islington) rests on how close you live to the school, not the borough you live in. So, for example, somebody living in Highbury New Park is probably only a 1/4 mile away from Stoke Newington School and will get in above somebody living in Dalston, even though the school is in Hackney.

p.s. Also left Stokey just before Clissold Leisure reopened!@maggiethecat. Typical.I'll be back in the manor for this year's StokeFest, though!
